I'm am looking to build a support group of people who like me are coping with mental health issues...you can be the person with the illness or be someone who is supporting a person with mental health issues... I find people who have mental health issues to be very intelligent and I like their perspective on the world!! I myself am Bipolar I but you don't have to be bipolar to be my friend!! Mithrae

Hello, I'm bi-polar also. Sounds like a wonderful idea. People like us definately do need friends who are understanding of our illness. What is Bi-polar I? I'm diagnosed as manic/depressive. Take care.

Hi Dedicated!!Bipolar is the new and improved name for what used to be called manic-depressive....I think the DSM-IV, the bible for psychiatrists, have about seven categories of bipolar...the differences have to do with how much time you spend on the up side or the down side...Bipolar I means that as well as having the depression and the mania or hypomania, I also have psychotic episodes.... Bipolar II have the ups and downs but not the psychosis...then some of us just have the mania...some of us are called "rapid-cyclers" which means they have many ups and downs in a year...etc.... People do find it hard to understand our illness because for the most part we function quite well, where other forms of mental illness the person has more difficulty coping with day to day living. So where do you fit into the sceme of things?? Do you have people who are supportive in your life?? Have you found any good websites on bipolar stuff?? I found WebMd to have an interesting message board for bipolars..but the best site I've seen for information and online communitites is Internet Mental Health (www.mentalhealth.com) they seem to have everything!! Let me know what you think!! I'm going to add you to my friend list..I hope you'll accept my invitation!! Happy Easter, Mithrae
