My city (Leeds) has buses and trains but no trams yet (although they have been discussing a tram system here for several years now). Public transportation in the UK is not difficult to find. In London also they have the metro which is quick and handy.

I am currently in the UK. There is plenty of public transportation. In the city where I am there is the tram and buses to almost anywhere. There are frequent trains to almost any place in the country but that can be quite expensive. It depends where you are going to be and where you want to go but transportation without driving is no problem really.
