Welfare is designed to be a helping hand when families are suffering through a hard time. Do you think that people should be dependent on welfare?

I believe that welfare was designed to help those who really can't help themselves. Problem: they make it so easy to obtain and so good looking to people who could care less about success, education, and pride - that many people take advantage of it. I am sure that there is only a small amount of people on welfare that really deserve it. Example: I knew someone - a male who was collecting food stamps, help with housing, they bought him a car. Now, he had no children - was completely healthy and had alot of experience in labor and landscaping jobs. He just "couldn't find work" so they give him all this crap.

I feel that people should only be dependent on welfare if they are absolutely not able to work at all. There are situations where people can not work at all and need some kind of support. There are also many others out there who are taking advantage of the welfare system by pretending to have disabilities of some kind. If a person can work, even if it is part time, they should be required to work.
