Why have we allowed all these roads and places that are dependent on having a car, we have become a car culture, walk somewhere, ride a bike, slow down or else... I cannopt afford to keep a car going let alone afford to buy the healthiest foods, Grow a Garden!

If you live in the city, you should take advantage of the bus system. I've saved so much money taking the bus. You meet alot of interesting people too. Be sure to vote in your area regarding having a bus system. They are a godsend!

the same way we are now dependant on the internet. We have access to something easier and that makes it a hot commodity

There are two reasons people are dependent on cars. 1. Everyone wants to live somewhere less crowded, which means they have to drive to work rather than walk. 2. People are too lazy to change their lifestyle. That's why you see people drive to the store even if they live a block away.

Where I live I need a car. I am far from everything and need it incase something happens with the kids, or to go to appointments or grocery shopping etc. We walk alot too though. After dinner we go for a family walk and we're outside all the time.

There is a town in the Netherlands called Groningen. They have spent millions tearing up their motorways and revamping them to be bicycle friendly. The town center is practically a car free zone. 60% of the population of Groningen uses bicycles exclusively to get around. All over the Netherlands there are state-maintained hiking paths, many stretching for hundreds of kilometers. I think we must - MUST - take note of things like this and act in kind. It's not just the personal expense of the cars, it's the toll it takes on our bodies in lack of exercise and the stress of traffic. It's the toll they take on the environment and the conflicts the oil causes.
