normal delivery or ceasarian section, which would you choose?

if given the choice of an elective ceasarian section, would you go for it or will you still choose the normal way of giving birth? Did anyone had a CS because they wanted to and not because there was a problem?

I chose to have a CS due to having a screw in my pelvis - there was chance i could have a natural birth but for me, i was scared that my baby would get stuck, if the screw stopped my pelvis from opening properly. I'm sure i would have been fine to have her naturally but decided a CS would be the best for me & it was fine to have. It also means your baby comes out before the due date, my daughter was due on June 15th last year but by CS she came out on June 6th (she could have come out sooner coz she was over cooked - even on the 6th!) - CS babies are always born earlier than if you have a baby naturally - unless of course you go in to labour early - in that case, i would have had an emergency CS. I guess it's just a personal thing, if you want natural then go natural, if you don't think you could handle the pain, then go with a CS - both have their upsides & downsides!

i agree with you about it being a personal choice. i delivered normally but due to some bodily issues i have now (intimacy) i half-wish i had a cs. thanks for the reply.

I would never have an elective cesarian. I have to put my childs life before my own personal problems. Babies born by cesarian have a higher chance of dying because they need to go through the birth canal to squeeze the fluid out of their lungs.

oh and by personal problems, I mean the fear of regular delivery or the fear of being "loose" down there. Not medical, I read the first one and thought oops, I don't mean to offend.

none taken. actually it's the opposite of "loose" is what happened (lol). i'd say both ways of giving birth has their own risks. because i was induced the contractions were more frequent and i was in labour for 12 hours and with every contraction my baby's heartbeat dropped w/c showed that he might be in distress. if i didn't dilate enough at the last minute, by choosing to go normal wouldn't i be putting my baby at risk? i'm not 100% though if i would do elective the next time. what's important to us mothers is that we will do everything for our child, for their health and safety. btw, you have a beautiful baby :-)

I had both my kids naturally. I would never choose an elective c section. They are for emergencies only in my opinion

Hi 7mfmns. I would take normal any day. Aside from being inexpensive, healing is better, isn't it? I have heard stories about women having had CS and even after the wound is healed, they still feel pain. And if you want to have many children,is it not true that if you had CS before your number of pregnancies is limited? I guess in all things, normal is just the right way to go. Thanks for the post. Have a great day. Hugs to the little one.

Thanks for your opinion, sick4muzick. I guess it's a choice based on several factors with how well your pregnancy is going or what you think will work for you best. Have a nice day!

I had a Caesarian section after 11 hours of labor for failure to progress. The surgery went fine but the pain was unbearable after the anesthesia wore off. I was lactating, too, which aggravated the pain. If I would have to choose, I'll opt for natural birth if I'd have another baby. It may be difficult, but it's worth a try. The healing process for a normal delivery is faster, too.

yes, your right. it takes longer to heal for ceasarian section. i don't know when you gave birth but i hope you are alright now.

I've had both. And let me tell you, the recovery is much quicker with a normal delivery. C-section delivery is quick. But the recovery takes much longer, and is much more painful.

i delivered my baby girl via the normal way. aside from the very expensive bill that has to be paid after a ceasarian operation, i don't think i have the nerve to go under the knife. there really are some women who would choose to have a ceasarian section because they are afraid that they won't be able to push hard, but all the women i know who had CS went through it because there really are problems with their pelvises.

you're right it's kinda scary when you think of going under the knife. i was induced and almost had a cs. while i was signing the consent form for the cs i got scared. i didn't get cs not because i backed out but the doc checked me one final time before rolling me out to the operating table and found out that i was already 9 cm. so we did the natural way but she had to used vacuum. there are some women though who choose to do elective cs for some reason and i'm seriously thinking of doing it next time cause of some bodily issues (w/c affected intimacy w/ hubby) that i'm experiencing right now. by the way, congratulatons on you 100th posts (smile!) Thanks for replying.

I have Fortunately given birth 7 times with a Normal Delivery but if I had to due to medial or for the baby's sake I would Mike taking the caesarean as long as my baby would be OK! =)

I think everyone woman should have the right to choose. I chose to have a normal delivery and let my daughter come in her own time. I think that was the best decision for me and I wouldn't have it any other way. But I certainly wouldn't put down a mom who wanted to have a c-section for whatever reason.

I was prepared to have a normal delivery when my doctor informed me that it wouldn't be possible. When I went into labor my doctor wasn't in town he had ledt on an emergency. THe doctor on call examined me an said I see no reason why you can't have a normal birth. Almost 5 hours later they were rushing me to the surgical room because they were starting to lose the baby and myself. If I ever decide to have another child I will opt for the CS.

I have a son who was born via emergency c-section. I planned on doing in naturally but he had other plans. I went through 41 hours of labor before I ended up having to have the c-section. I'll be honest - it was a complete relief when they told me I was having a c-section. I had been having camel back contraction for 2 hours by that point. I was on oxygen and I was completely exhausted. I was not progressing at all, and my heart rate as well as my son's heart rate was dropping rapidly. My doctor told me that he never could have been delivered normally. He was stuck on my hip. That being said, I think I will elect to have a c-section next time. My son turned out perfectly fine even though he was delivered via c-section. His APGAR tests were perfect both times. I don't ever want to put myself or my child through that kind of pain and stress again.
