Yes you read that correctly. I recently got a call from my mother, she was very excited, (which is odd for my mother) anyhow she was telling me about a program where you could get more than enough food to feed a family of 4 for a week. And it would only cost $25. My first thought was well mom joined another one of those coupon exchanges or something. SO of course I asked her what she was talking about. There is a program out there that anyone can join, you don't have to be a part of any church, you don't have to show low income or anything like that. She told me you pay for your food then pick it up. It's a once a month program and you can order as many of the "units" as you want. One unit is $25 and will feed an average family of 4 for a week. My next question of course was its almost out of date or dented cans or something like that isn't it? She said NO!! It's all high quality stuff you would get at the grocery store. She said that before she told me about it she got some just to make sure. So I decided to check it out and see what she was talking about. I was amazed the amount you get for $25. The menu changes monthly, and if you decide you don't like what's on the menu for that month you don't have to get it. So after looking at it and figuring things up you can actually feed a family of 4 for about $250 a month, without going hungry, because of milk and things like that that you would get seperate and as needed. The best part of it is they take any kind of payment, Credit card, cash, and even food stamps. I have been trying to get one of the churches in my area to pick this up because I think it will help a lot of people. Oh I almost forgot....It's called Angel Food Ministries, you can look on their website for your area and find the closest center to you. You can also look at the menu and everything there as well. I can't copy paste yet or I would post a sample menu. www.angelfoodministries.com

I posted a post on this program last week. We use anglefood every month. We usually buy 2 units and two specials and that will feed us all month. With only needing to buy milk, bread and fresh fruits and veggies at the store. We have cut our monthly food costs to about 200.00 a month for a family of three.plus i babysit for 3 others kids that i provide snacks and beverages for.

I am sorry I didn't see any posts on it. I just found out about it yesterday. I called them to see exactly what it was all about, and the very nice lady I spoke with had said that they wanted to get the word out and that they thought everyone should be a part of this. I even went so far as to contact a few of our local churches to let them know about it to see if they wanted to get involved. I also called the local welfare office to let them know so they could tell their clients about it. I had never heard of this before, so I thought there would prolly be a lot of people that hadn't heard of it either. I think it is a great idea to help a lot of people.

Thank you for sharing this ministry with us. I've gone to their site and think it is a wonderful program. There isn't a distribution site near me so I printed off several pages of information and am sending them to the pastor of the local church.

Our church and community is struggling right now so I'm hoping the pastor will see what a good opportunity this is for everyone. Right now the congregation is mainly young families and elderly, neither of which have much money to spare.

Then this may be a great oppertunity for them to get involved in. I hate to say it this way, but with something like this a lot of seniors would be able to afford to eat. If one feeds a family of 4 for a week could you imagine how long one $25 unit would feed a senior citizen? You hear all the time that for a lot of senior citizans they have to choose between their meds or food. This way they could eat and get their meds.

Form what I understand from reading their site its a way for the church to raise money. I don't know why a chruch wouldn't be willing to get involved. It is a great way to reach out to the community also.
