i, for one is a nurse..hehe and so are most of my friends, and my friends' friends! funny how i used to hate taking up nursing but viola! i am a registered one now and i feel proud to be one of them 'overworked, underpaid' sweet girls around. *wink* 5 years? yeah, i've heard of that...that's good and bad. good for quality education, bad for those low income students who wanted to finish their course and get a job asap. =)

Thank you for droppin' by moira20! Perhaps it really is your calling. ;-) Yeah, I agree... Nurses here are way underpaid. Plus a 7am-7pm shift, for instance, does not really end at 7pm.

Well my sister is a nurse, an LPN to be exact. I should say she was but due to hurting herself at work she is no longer able to. She started out back as a candy stripper (a hospital volunteer that is a teenager) and worked her way up to nursing assistant, then a certified nursing assistant and then finally as a nurse. She loved working in the nursing homes. I know she misses it a lot. I do have some friends on-line who are nurses as well. I thought of being a nurse but I knew I didn't have the right temperment for it so I stayed out. I do know here in the states it's not a 5 year course unless you are going for your bachelor's degree with it. Then it can be I think with the clinicals as well. Most though do not go for their BSN and just get the certificate for nursing.

Hi emeraldisle! What happened to your sis? :-( Very few people I know really love the profession. Most do it because of the moolah factor. Here in the Phils., they need to earn a BSN, then take the board.

there are way too many! but you know, nursing for me is a service profession, and not everybody is designed to be a nurse. it seems that people are taking up nursing simply for the desire to go abroad, in search of greener pastures. i find that rather sad because nursing is taking a whole new meaning that way.

I agree. There are a lot who are incompetent to be nurses, but they join the field because of the ka-ching factor.

just like you, i also have a bandwagon of friend who are in the field of nursing. my friends are taking it, my friends' friends, the relatives of my friends, the relatives of my friends' friends.. so many and even me, i am thinking of changing my course for my uncle wants it so that he can get me a job as soon as i graduated. i can work abroad immediately. 5 year course for nursing? that would be a heck of time. such a wast of time if they will implement that. i know that 4 years is too long for after graduating, you can't really apply all the things you learned from school, just a bit of that will be right? so why change it? to just worsen the lives of our countrymen? oh no that will be bad!

Hehe... Every Pinoy knows at least a dozen, I suppose. Yeah, I think 5 years is too long. Plus, after graduation there exams to study for - board, cgfns, nclex.
