Should restaurants offer healthier choices? Is MacDonald's at fault for obesity?

In recent years there was some controversy surrounding a case in which Mickey D's was sued for for a consumer's obesity related health issues. How much responsibility should be placed on the restaurant industries to provide healthier choices? Candid responses and honest opinions highly appreciated

Nobody forces me to eat at McDonalds. People need to take responsibility for themselves. McDonalds is a business in a capitalist society. No blame should ever be put upon them for making people fat. That is called lack of self control. Everything in moderation.

I appreciate you honesty. Do you think they could cook with a little less fat?

Grill a burger at home or bake fries in your oven if you don't want to consume the fat they put in their food.

That's really ridiculous you know, but that's just the way things seem to be going on in our society. We go out to restaurants to eat something different from what we have everyday, at home. Even if the food is fattening, it is just once in a while that we eat out anyway and it cannot really cause much harm. However, the problem is when people start having all their meals in the restaurants and not at home. This would definitely be unhealthy and could lead to obesity and what not. However, if all the hotels and restaurants were to go the health food way, people who look forward to indulging themselves once in a while would be at a disadvantage. Lets face the facts. Healthy food is not great to eat and vice-versa. We ought to do the balancing and not blame the eateries.

I agree that some food code needs urgent enforcement in our restourants. If they insist on fast foods, there should be clearly marked disclaimers about the side effects of eating such foods. Above all there should be awide variety of choices for the customers to choose from so that they are not limited to fast foods!

I think the consumers are the one responsible for that because they are the one to decide what are they going to eat and how many foods they will eat.Restaurants should offer healthier choices so that they can help also consumers in choosing a restaurant to go to.

Well, I do think that places should make more of an effort to provide healthier foods, but I don't think it's their fault that people are obese. If someone gets fat, it's their own fault for having unhealthy habits. Just because the junk food is available, that doesn't mean that people have to eat it, or that they have to eat it in such huge portions!

in my opinion it is not the restuarants that are to blame for people getting fat. peopel have the choice if they want to eat there or not. it is just as easy to walk into a super walmart or a grocery store and get a veggie snack kit or a lunchable or a piece of fruit as it is to go into a restuarant. sometimes it is even easier at lunch times to go there instead cause of lines. most fast food places have salads on the menu and have had for along time now. yes mickey d's is cheap 2.00 for lunch but you can go to the store and get an apple, jiuce, and crakers for 2.00 too. most peopel if you go to there house you will see all kinds of junk food they didnt get that from the drive thru though. lol it is up to us what we eat and what we choose. it is up to parents to make sure kids have the right foods at home and get out and play instead of sitting in front of the tv or computer.

Macdonalds restaurant should not be blamed. In fact, it should be appreciated that it had made people aware that the food offered by it in its restaurant is not healthy food and is a junk food. And everyone aware of MacDonalds restaurant is aware about it. Hence there is no question of blaming them. The responsibility lies with the people and it is their decision whether to have junk food or healthy food.

People tend to blame others for their life choice mistakes , and its getting more popular to do so every day. McDonalds didn't force even one person to eat Big macs and fries and wash them down with large shakes. They just served you what you wanted to eat. if you are fat, its YOUR fault, just like its mine that I'm fat. I suggest that people get away from thetable, get off theirlazy butts and get some exercise instead of whining that McDonalds and KFC made you fat.

I don't think the restaurants are responsible, we as comsumers are responsible for what we eat. If we weren't willing to buy fattening food that is bad for us restaurants would change and make things healthier...but I have to admit that I love fattening fast food!! It tastes so yummy!!! And I can't blame a company if I gain weight because I eat their food!!

I think fast food restraunts have been offering healthier alternatives lately. It is my choice to enter McDonald and oder a big mac and fries instead of grilled chicken and a side salad. No one is twisting my arm a making me eat there so no they shouldnt be able to be sued. We need to be responsible for our actions and not try to blame others.
