Do u consider conventional overachievers to be overworked & secretly imbalanced?

I was recently reading a book at Borders called 'The Overachievers.' It was an account of several accomplished students struggling to finish high school at the top of their classes and get into ivy league colleges/similarly selective institutions.. and all of them were portrayed as troubled youngsters lacking perspective (for example, thinking that a B in a class will lead to failure). This portrayed irritated me, simply because I'm viewed as an 'overachiever,' and I've always felt that the people who achieve more than most do not generally value the superficial recognitions, and can handle their equal/lesser portion of troubles better than most. I'm just wondering now what perspective is more prevalent among the general population.
