My neighbors dogs (3) constantly are destroying the plastic slats I have installed in the chainlink fencing between our yards. The fence and slats belong to me. what can I do legally. The neighbor refuses to replace the damaged and missing slats.

Use a spray that deters a dog. It is safe and doesn't harm the dog and safe for your fence. no harm no foul.

there are many sprays you can find from the petland type store to walmart to deter the dog or cat... but this is even cooler. with sprays you have to continually spray especially if outdoors. For outdoors you can plant certain plants about 3' apart they grown, look good. and deter cats,dogs,rabbits...what ever you want. Safe and natural and no upkeep like daily spraying or weekly... http://www.djroger.com/dogs_gone.htm that is the site check it out lol

There are little devices that you can get for ten or fifteen dollars which work like dog whistles, you press a button and all dogs in the area run away, it works up to fifty feet away, why not just stick one on your house near your fence with the button permanently jammed in, then you'd just have to replace the batteries every once in a while and you're neighbor would have no idea because humans can't hear at that level.

I would call the police and let them know what is going on. Did you make sure the fence was put up on your property side? some people are really picky about their land. You neibghbor seems he/she cant control their dogs. You can put the electric fence around and if they coem near or touch your fence, they get shocked. With few shocked, Im sure dogs will stay away from your fence and you can take the electric fence away when dogs learn the lesson.

Every place we've ever lived has had neighborhood dogs who were nuisances to neighbors. The biggest problem has always been the barking while we're trying to sleep. Then there have been dogs who tore our garbage up all over the yard when we had to leave it at the curb. One of our neighbors had a new, expensive shoe taken from their carport and destroyed by a dog. When the kids were little we had a neighbor dog who liked to come and do his business in our yard which meant my little ones stepped in it. I like dogs reasonably well, but I don't think dog ownership gives anyone the right to let their dogs harrass their neighbors in any way.

I'd talk to a local attorney and get his advice. Maybe your neighbor would respond to a letter from an attorney. If not, sue him in small claims court for the damages his dogs caused.
