I've heard she is retired, but I can't believe it.

Well, I was rather surprised to read your post missak, as I get the feeling that making music and art are just part of her as a person. I've checked online, and according to her official website, she HASN'T retired - she's just signed a two-album recording contract with Starbucks' "Hear Music" label, and the release date for her next album "Shine" is apparently due for release on September 25th. So that's one to look out for soon! Apparently she did criticize the music industry back in 2002, and threatened to retire back then. I believe it was because of the fact that she seems to have been stung by record labels financially, (she said "I'll be damned if I'll line their pockets") as well as the generally falling standards and lack of originality in so many artists. She's no fan of MTV either - can't say I blame her! It's great to hear that she is going to release new albums again though. Did you know that she's apparently a grandma now too?!

That is great news!!! When I started this post (4 months ago) the web said she was not clearly retired but she claimed she was not in the mood of producing new albums because of thoose misunderstanding with industry. In 2005 she signed a compilation of songs as a charity recollect album (Song of a Prairie Girl), but after Travelogue (2002) she has not produced anything new... I definitly will look forward for "Shine"!!! I didn't know she is grandma, but that is good news also! :) Thanks for sharing!

I read this story, too... she had apparently done some stuff with that record label before and obviously liked them. This will be her first album of new material she's written in about 6 or 8 years. Paul McCartney also signed with Hear Music; his new album is on the label.

I am a great fan of Joni Mitchell and from reading your last response I am glad she has made a deal to make another album. I look forward to hearing it.
