What does it mean?

Freedom is a word used in a America as a right of passage. A right our fore fathers gave us in their battles to live in a country that was not dictated. As of lately I feel these rights were many young men, fathers, sons, and grandsons lost their lives to pursue have been overwhelmed with the idea of political correctness. Our rights are slowly being dictated to us everyday. Small things of course things that are suppose to protect us from ourselves. These actions however confuse me with losing my freedom. Is it right to be told what you can and cannot do as a posting rather than a law. For example I notice earlier this week outside of my clinic a sign that states: This is a smoke free campus please do not use tobacco on this property. Wow I thought to myself smokers cannot even go outside to smoke anymore. Why is tobacco even still legal. It made me start thinking about the other small things that as Americans we were able to determine within our own wisdom if we should or shouldn't do. Don't get me wrong I understand that second hand smoke is bad for people and they should not have to be exposed to it. But outside? I mean how could that really effect anyone? Unless of course they stood by the smoker and tried to breath it in. No smoking on their property, a public place. Hmmmm taking your rights over theirs a little far I think. Another example when I started to think about legal substances. I went online to find states in which you cannot consume alcoholic beverages anywhere within that state. Wow where is their freedom of choice. This continued where I found it legal to consume drugs that are otherwise illegal in other states. I was surprised on my research in how differently laws and regulations where within the same country. I had to wonder if this is what our fore fathers expected and/or wanted to happen as their blood shed for freedom. I feel with religion being in the front of our new age battles it is not what they wanted at all. Freedom of religion is what brought them here in the first place but now we are not even aloud to sing the star spangled banner within the classroom or pledge allegiance to our great county that was founded under God as to not offend any tender ears who's parents do not believe. It think of these things and many more that I cannot list are taking away our freedoms as a whole. What do you think?
