The best way to slice onion without getting water eyes is to put the onion into the freezer for about 15 minutes before you want to slice it.

Wear some sort of glasses, it prevent that acid to go in your eyes. you can also put the onion in a freezer for about 10 min. before chopping. you can dip it in salt water for 15 min after peeling and cutting it in 2 halves.

When slicing onions try to hold your breath or inhale away from the onion. I hate slicing onions and what makes your eyes watery is because you inhale its smell. Try to chill the onion also and cut the root or bottom end last. Happy cooking!

I used to have this problem It went away. I snip out the root, then dig out the top. Make a small slcie on one side so it can stand on it's own and then slice it. No tears for me.

hi there. When I need to use onion for cooking, I usually peel and cut the ends off the onion, while running it under cold water, then I slice and use them as I need them. Otherwise peel them the day before use and store in the fridge until ready for use. :)

Some one from Mylot said burn a candle. Have you heard of that. something about the gases from the onions and candles. that should stop your eyes from running.

there are a few remedies for this actually..I've used these and they've all worked for me - cut it under water (either under a running tap or in a bowl of water - have a lit candle near you - have a small pot of water and vinegar going the first two work the best for me...I'll have to try that freezing idea though that sounds like a good one...

There are supposedly a few things you can do to minimise tears while cutting onions. You can wash the onion first, you can chew or suck lollies or you can put the onion in the freezer for a few minutes before cutting. There are probably lots of other stuff you can do as well. I don't have a big problem with it myself, Maybe the red onions I use are milder than browns and whites.
