I learned an important lesson last week that I feel I must share with you all. I was surfing traffic exchanges, and picked up a nasty Trojan. This in itself is not so unusual since it happens to someone every day, but what I learned is. One thing, keep your firewall and antivirus software up-to-date. Not just the definitions, but the software itself. If your antivirus company offers you an upgraded version of the software, accept it, even if it is an added expense. It will save you a lot of trouble in the long run. Secondly, get Spybot AND AdAware. They each search for a lot of the same things, but each also detects things the other doesn't. Thirdly, get a preventative program called Spywareblaster. This program serves to inoculate your computer against most of the known malware programs. Fourthly, but most importantly, check for updates DAILY! I can't stress enough how important this is. Even if there isn't always a new update every day, you need the updates as soon as they are available to protect your system. Otherwise, you are leaving yourself open to a serious infection of your computer.

Dude, one thing important as well but you neglected it Please remember to do windows update once in awhile. Some patches are very important for windows security. Good luck! ;) p/s: i will recommend to use superantispyware instead of lavasoft adware you can get it at http://www.snapfiles.com search for it.

First of all, I am not a dude, I am 100% woman. Secondly, I believe I mentioned checking for updates DAILY. Most of us have XP or VISTA, and have automatic updates installed. I have mine scheduled to check for updates DAILY. Before I got infected, I only did it weekly. And I checked out superantispyware, but I'm not quite sure about it. I use AdAware because it is established and trusted, and I also use Spybot, Search and Destroy for the same reason. They check different regions for spyware, and complement each other well. I use these products because they have been widely recommended by trusted resources. I am very hesitant to try any other products, since a lot of them are on the PUP lists provided by McAfee and Norton.

Thanks for reminding us, I hope nobody tries to surf without a good protection. I have Panda and Ewido, the first I bought at the same time as my computer and Ewido I loaded down to protect my e-gold account. They are supposed to work well together..

I would like to add that one and the most important thing is to browse only "good sites", don't go on any suspectable sites. One thing you can do, if you want to browse how ever you feel, is to set up virtual pc, then no problems with spyware. It's available from Microsoft for free, so there' no even any extra cost, only the trouble of installing OS.

This is all fine and good, but when you are trying to promote an Internet business, it is sometimes necessary to embark into dangerous territory. Even virtual PC cannot protect you from everything. You have to have preventative software installed and up-to-date, and even then, you can only hope to be 99% protected.
