Is too much sleep bad for 2 year olds? My husband thinks it's good that our 2 year old sleeps alot once in a while. Today she fell asleep from 11am to 4pm and now at 7pm is almost getting ready for bed time. I'm just concerned. Can too much sleep bad for kids? Thanks.

I am not an authority in this issue. This is my personal opinion that I have gathered over the years. It is believed that for young children like your little girl, sleep will help them in their growth and development. However, you should ensure that she plays actively during her wakeup time. This will not put her into an obese situation. From the photo, I gather it is she, she is cute and a healthy girl, so I think it is OK to let her sleep those hours.

I wouldn't worry. I dont think that 2 yr olds can sleep too much. They sleep when their bodies tell them that they need it. Sometimes when they have been outside, the fresh air makes them sleep longer. Also, if they are fighting a cold, they will sleep longer. Dont worry and enjoy this time of quiet in your house. Soon you will be wishing that he would take a nap and it won't happen.

I am rather confused about this issue. Some say that it is normal and ok to sleep a lot, and others say that one shouldn't sleep to much or sleep to little cause it can be bad for you. Would be nice if I could get a definitive answer to this, cause I to have days where I can nearly sleep all day and night. Just depends on how much I have worn myself out for a certain amount of time. I hope you can get a straight answer for this issue.

I am sure sleeping too much is not bad for your 2 years old kid.Enough sleeping is very necessary for a baby.

Just like sometime we need to catch up on our sleep, so do our children! Having a longer nap and still going to bed on time is fine! My children do it once in a while to! They are growing and growing tuckers them out!
