My son and I have been hit by a really bad cold that just won't go away. We both have really nasty coughs and are congested. I have been blowing my nose and sneezing all day and my son is up all through the night coughing. We have tried cough and cold medications, but they are not working very well. My son has a vaporiser in his room, but again it's not doing too much. Any advice on ways to chase this cold away would be so appreciated. I'm so sick of being sick.

Hello,by now I think both of you have recovered but you could use this for future reference :D Colds Sniff peppermint oil vapor to open sinuses. Rub cayenne, garlic oil and lobelia onto the throat for relief from coughs, congestion, or sore throats. Take large amount of vitamin C. Vitamin C prevents viruses and bacteria from reproducing and also neutralizes harmful bacteria by reducing mucus in the cells. Take Co-enzyme Q10 to aid the effects of vitamin C. Garlic, cayenne, and goldenseal act as natural antibiotics and fight infection and reduce fever. Alfalfa halts sneezing attacks and clears sinuses. The herb fenugreek in capsules eases sinus headaches. Honey and lemon juice soothe sore throats and ease coughs. Dairy products cause excess mucus build up, and sould be avoided during a cold.

My son and I had just nicely gotten rid of that cold only to have him bring home a new one from school this week. I'll be glad when cold season is over. Thanks for all the tips, i'll be sure to try them out.

Ah the best thing for a yucky cold is ginger tea with honey and lemon. Get some fresh ginger and grate it mix with lemon juice and a spoon of honey with warm water. Drink this concoction at least three times a day and you will see your son and you get much better. Loads of vitamin c also every few hours and that should do the trick, I hope this helps my friend. I have used this remedy for years and it works fast every time.

Thanks. My mom used to make a hot lemon drink with lemon juice and honey. I forgot all about it, I havn't had it since I lived at home. I don't think she used ginger tea, but I will definitely try it.
