My friend came home the other day and found her dog dead. The dog was only four years old, so this was very unexpected. I didn't know what to say to my friend to make her feel better, I would be greatful for any suggestion. Please help!

Yes, I understand that this is part of life, but I just don't know what to say to my friend without upsetting her more. Thanks!

I had some three dogs some years back. My uncle took one dog which was boxer. I still miss my dog and have no words to express regarding sorrow I have when I miss him. Pets importance sometimes become more than our family to us. I am not able to forget my boxer still. I think you can just tell your friend that her dog will now be taken care by god himself. ( If your friend is a young one.) Other thing which you can do is get her another dog so that she can forget her dog for sometime and can conc. on this new one. ( I don't think that even this will work. ) But anyway try these .

Yes, I agree that pets can be like family to some people. I feel the same about my pets. I don't think I would buy her another dog, just incase it was too soon, but thanks for the suggestion. Thanks!

its really hard to cheer someone up who lost a pet. i would just tell her how sorry you are for her, and then just go on with normal conversations, or activities. time is only the thing that will make her feel better.

Thanks for that, I think I will try this. I just worry that she will think I don't care if I don't talk about it with her. I just don't really know what to say and I am scared of upsetting her more. Thanks!

Sometimes the best thing to do is listen. Quite often people are happy if your there just to listen. I know that sometimes they may want you to respond, I find it's best to respond just a little bit, that way you will hopefully not say anything wrong.

Yes, I am happy to be there to listen. That's what friends are for. I do worry though that if I don't say enough, will she take that as rude? I guess I will have to play it by ear and hopefully I manage to say the right things. Thanks!
