The ATM stole my money!

I went to the Washington Mutual bank and one of the ATM machines did not work. I punched in my pin number and requested $140 USA dollars and the machine would not deliver the cash. So I went to another ATM, same bank and tried again. This time I got my money. A couple of days later I checked my bank account in the internet and noticed that it showed I had withdrawn $140 two times at Washington Mutual. I called my bank and they are going to investigate. However, they have provisionally credited my account with $140 dollars. Has this ever happened to other people?

A similar thing happened to me. My cell phone rang and I did not get my money out quick enough and the atm took it back. I stood in front of the machine like a "deranged person",and called the 800 customer service. I was afraid to leave or let anyone use the ATM because I was afraid somehow they might get my money,. It was a large sum $300 The customer rep assured that I could let other people use it, they credited my account provisionally and when they counted the money they credited me . It is funny now but I was so upset the day it happened.Needless as soon as the money rolls out of the ATM I grab it, I never give it a chance to suck it back in

I went to an atm machine to withdraw $340.00 I stuck my card in and type my pin# and then it made noise as if the cash was about to come out but the only thing that came out was a reciept saying that I recieved the money but no cash came out but yet the 340.00 was took out of my account...their telling me that there will be an invesigation which will take 30days ..i'm so upset because that money was for my bills and the bank does not seem to care...I swear on my mother's soul I will never use another atm machine ever again in life

I think this happened to me way back when I banked with US Bank, and it took a little bit to get it cleared but it was cleared with no problem. But the most Stupid thing I ever did, was Deposit an empty envelope thinking a Check was in there, and having a hard time getting a Bank Card again. It was a Mess, but was fixed. But Glad to hear your issue is being looking into, and wishing you the Best.

It also happened to me. I already punched my pin number and typed the amount I wanted to widraw which is 2000 perso but the atm machine said that they cannot dispense money. But when I checked my atm to another bank, they lessed 2000 peso from my account. But I wasn't able to report it to the bank because I only found out after three days.

You lost the money! How terrible you couldn't report it in 3 days time. From now on I am going to check my account every day after using my ATM card.

This has happened to me before and I immediately notify the bank regarding what had happened including the location of the ATM machine. I got my money back the next day once they have verified all the information given are correct. Please note that all ATMs are required to produce its debits and credits at the end of the day and any discrepancies would be investigated against any claim to to that specific ATM. That is how it works in Malaysia.

I don't think it works that way in California. They just stay with the money! Thanks for your comment.

You are right. We have to verify every transaction we do to make sure the account is correct. Thank you for your comment.

this happened to me just this weekend my last $100 bank say i have to give the Bank that owns the ATM a week to check their machine then 5 days to process the transactions then if the Bank does not reverse the Transaction My Bank can then file an inquiry.. it sucks that I have to wait I need the money now.

that happens a lot when the machine is empty.it'll still subtract it,even though it didn't kick out the cash.i've had to call the bank for my mom a few times for that.

Well, Can ATM do that. In my country, if the ATM is empty, the press of deposit would show up. This means I can't request money at all. And thus this problem wouldn't occur.

Usually the ATM shuts down when it is empty, but on this occasion the ATM worked with the exception of giving out the money. Thanks for your response.

OMG! This is so ironic. Just today I've been pleading my case to the bank and my card issuer (it's an unemployment Mastercard). This morning I went to the ATM to get money to pay my power bill. I know there was $153.00 on the card but i only needed $140.00. The ATM screen read that I didn't have funds available When I know I did. I tried again. The second time, it said the transaction was cancelled so I went to the bank's other ATM a few miles away. This time i was told that i only had $13.00 left on my card!!! I DIDN'T GET ANY MONEY THOUGH! Now, they're saying i have to wait 8 days for my money to be replaced. I guess that means light out...

It didn't ever happen to me though. But that is kind of scary, what if the bank deny your claim on that $140. You might lost that money. Sometimes, I was kind of skeptical on those ATM machine, especially computer operated device. They are not acting right sometimes, and you might end up losing money. I still would like to limit my usage on ATM.
