Why does my child sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and let out a big scream then goes right back to sleep? Is he really awake when he makes this loud noise? It's so strange! Anyone else's child do this?

There is a book called "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems" by DR. Ferber. he discusses situations like these in detail, and this was a book recommended by my pediatrician. Its a very useful book, and it helped my husband and i alot with our daughters strange sleep habits.

My daughter used to do this, her doctor told me it was something called Night terrors. It's kinda like a nightmare but they don't remember them, they just scream and fall back to sleep. Try to see if there is anything common about what happens during the day and see if you take that away if it stops it. You know like a common trigger, say something that the child may be scared of. My daughter was watching the movie Shrek alot when she had hers I stopped letting her watch it and they stopped. Also you could ask the doctor. Hope this helps. Good luck.

My little one started doing that again. THe last week or so, he's been waking up in the middle of the night and screaming. He goes back to sleep sometimes, but most of the time I need to pick him up and comfort him. I think though, that our lo is doing it because, just like a pp said, he's uncomfortable. He still sleeps in our room in his bassinett, but I think he's getting to big for it and he's uncomfortable. I think we're going to have to put him in his crib soon. It's not that we don't want to, it's just that he's not rolling over yet and we're affraid he'll roll over to his tummy and won't be able to roll back onto his back. Anyway, I think it could also me that he's dreaming, or something like that.
