Are the Italian mafia disappearing?

I dont hear so much about the Mafia any more. in the 70s and the 80s, the Mafia relatd crimes were very ommon. Contract killers, assasination of Popes and outstanding political leaders were being planned by the Mafia from Sicily! Have these gang rackets been bursted?
