Stem Cell Research--Is It Murder or Life Saving Research?

My hubby and I were arguing about this after watching an episode of Law & Order. I have no problem with stem cell research as a whole. My issue with it is when human embryos are created for the sole purpose of harvesting their stem cells. To me, this is just wrong. Why can't we use the stem cells of aborted fetuses, the stems from cord blood and placentas after a birth or even adult stem cells for this research? Why is necessary to create a human embryo just so it can be diced up and used for research? My sister is using IVF to have a baby. The doctors are creating embryos that will be implanted in the hopes that she will have a baby. It is the same process, minus the implantation, to create the embryos that used for stem cell research. It just seems wrong to create potential babies, just to kill them. What are your thoughts on this?

Yes well actually I agree with what you have said here as this would be the right way to go about stem cells and leave the other human embryos alone. I do hope that your sister IVF is successful for her as it must be dreadful when you have to go through this way and not the normal way to conceive a baby.

I keep praying for her. She has had some terrible luck with trying to have a baby. First, she lost an ovary on the right side. Doctors told her no problem you still have the left side. Then she had a tubal pregnancy and lost the tube on the left side. So, it is really hard to have a baby the natural way when you have an ovary on the left but no tube and a tube on the right but no ovary. Her only option is IVF. :)
