My Reputation

I have mostly been responding to discussions because it can be sooo time consuming to search for topics before starting them and I really enjoy sharing emails and jokes which have probably already been around the myLot block a few times. Whenever I think of a topic I'd like to discuss, I can almost always find it has been started already, so I just respond to one of those instead. Well, I have had a ten star since the reputation stars started.... until Saturday when I started some new discussions (jokes and emails ~ not my own personal ones). One person was 'mildly' offended as they stated and one discussion was pulled altogether (a sarcastic view on diet and health). I'm assuming that one was a repeat or offended someone who is very health conscience??? Just guessing though. These were the first ones I've started since the myLot reputation stars were added, so I'm totally blaming my star drop on having started them. Now, I'm a little discouraged about starting discussions at all. I mean, if people will neg (-) me or report me for something I didn't personally write then what are the chances of me being able to share personal jokes, stories or opinions without offending someone? I always try my best not to offend others. I don't neg a person's comment or discussion unless it's extremely mean or offensive ((it takes a lot to offend me though)). Thanks for listening ; )

I have had a similar experience. I had a number 10 star for some time and one day I answered a discussion that was about religion. I usually don't answer those kind of discussions but that one really caught my attention and I answered with a point of view that was against the one who started the discussion. The next day my star dropped to 9 and since then I have never managed to get it back. So I think it takes little for your star to drop down but a lot of time to build it up again. I think the person rated me negative and maybe they went to many of my other discussions and rated them negative just for the fun of it. Anyone who doesn't like you can bring down your reputation and this is not a good way to judge someone's reputation. As I always say our reputation does not affect our earnings and that's a good thing. Good luck My Spot.

That's a very good thing, indeed! As you may have noticed, it's one week later and I'm still at a 9 :~( So I think you're right about it taking a long time to get it back up! I rated you + for joining in and contributing in my discussion. I appreciate your input and thank you for the luck ; )

Unfortunetly it doesn't take much to move from a 10 to a 9 since at 95/100 it is at a 9 but at 97/100 it's at a 10. So 2 people out of a 100 rated you with a negative. There are always going to be petty people in the world. It's just how it is. It's just sad that it happens. If the one was pulled that one was probably the culprit. I don't remember seeing it so I can't say on that for sure though. It takes a lot for me to rate a negative. It either has to be against the guidelines, with those I report then rate negative (this way I know I reported it and won't do it twice for some reason), or if it's a one or two word response. Some though feel if it's against their view point that they can rate someone negative. It shouldn't be that way and if one looks at the guidelines one would see it states that in there. Of course some believe they don't need to follow the guidelines and that is a shame.

Thanks a lot for your input. I do realize and understand that some people are just petty like that and it really is a shame. Oh well! I felt like ranting .... but I'm still posting ; )

I've only given one negative rateing since I started on Mylot and that was for someone that gave a real smart-alec answer to a queation I asked in a discussion. I really dont worry to much about what my rateings are. I'm not really sure I understand the importance other than what others may think of you and honestly, someones rateing has little to do with whether I respond to a discussion or not. Take care!!

Thanks. I'm not tripping about my reputation (star rating) anymore. It bothered me at first but heck, I can only be me, right? It goes back to an old expression~ "I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not".

Hello, it is my first time to write to you. I can always see some people who try to mark other people negative for no reasons,or may be they are just not happy with your comment , may be mylot should remove the rating system so that members do not need to care so much about the rating and have more flexibility in posting and replying or commenting.
