Why the Indian Cricket Team failed?

In the World Cup Cricket Tournament 2007, The Indian Cricket team fumbled earlier.All except Saurav Ganguly failed to make a mark in the tournament, except the Barmuda match where the opponent team was like a Club team infront of a world Class team like India.So the Barmuda match could not be taken as a success-meter for Indian players.Can anyone tell why the team failed?Why such big names in Cricket world could not make a mark out in the middle?
