Has anyone seen the original movie or read the book? |
|
I love the show the Dead Zone with Anthony Michael Hall that is on tv but I wondered if anyone besides me here ever saw the original movie? Or did you read the book by Stephen King? If you did what did you think of them? In my opinion both were very good and I loved Christopher Walken's performance along with Martin Sheens in the movie. For those who aren't sure here is the link to it on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085407/ for you to check it out.

1. Transdisc (16759) | 2 years ago | I read King's book, The Dead Zone, many years ago, emeraldisle. I believe that I was still in grade school when I read it. I enjoyed the book at the time that I read it. A few years later when it was made into a movie with Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen, I saw the movie and enjoyed it. Most of King's books seem to be adapted well to the screen. I thought that the original movie was good, but I am always partial to the book. I have not watched the Dead Zone show with Anthony Michael Hall, mostly because I know that I have a bias against it already, simply because of the original movie. I also tend to think of the movies, Weird Science, and National Lampoon's Vacation, every time I see Anthony Michael Hall. I know that this isn't fair, but this is what I do. A show of the Dead Zone seems like a good idea, as there are so many possibilities that could be explored around that idea. Having seen the original movie and the television show, what is your experience of the show, emeraldisle?

emeraldisle (9051) | 2 years ago | Well I haven't watched the show this season but I have liked it in the past. They have been very true to the story. I didn't read the original book but I was told by my sister that the movie did follow the book fairly well. The show did a great job of following it too at least what I saw of it the first few seasons. It's been on at a bad time for me to cactch but going to try to again. The storylines they did were very good and really gave more depth to the character of Johnny. Showed what all he had to deal with, not just his new vision but also the lose of Sarah (his fiance) and how he had a child he never knew about. It was well done. I can't blame you with Anthony Michael Hall and thinking of the geekie kid but he's really grown up quite a bit since then. He looks very different. I've uploaded some pics of the show under this interest so you can see if you like.

Transdisc (16759) | 2 years ago | I'm not putting down Mr. Hall. I loved Vacation and Weird Science. I'll have to see if I can catch the television, Dead Zone. Thanks.

emeraldisle (9051) | 2 years ago | I didn't think you were. He has changed quite a bit since those days. I loved him in The Breakfast Club and Wierd Science. When I first saw him on The Dead Zone I couldn't believe how much he changed. All I could think of were those Oprah or other shows where they do the "Then and Now" from high school geek to adult hunk.

ladyluna (2063) | 2 years ago | Hello Transdisc, You crack me up! I had forgotten about him being in "Weird Science". Even little Anthony Michael Hall is all growed up now. Actually, the first time I saw the show I could hardly believe it was him. But, fortunately he'd changed enough that "The Breakfast Club" never entered my mind. It's a great show, Transdisc. They've done a fabulous job of using comedy, drama, action, and good 'ol suspense to meld the concept of a psychic into the everyday life of the real world. It's not hokey at all. I've watched it from the first episode of the first season. I'll also add that Hubby & I both like it. So, yes it appeals to both genders.

2. Shaun72 (11381) | 2 years ago | I loved both of them myself the one with Anthony Micheal Hall and the one with Christopher Wallken and Martin Sheen. I have never read the book though. I should go buy the book. I bet it is even better. I loved watching the dead zone eposides also with Anthony Micheal Hall. Both the movies were pretty good.

emeraldisle (9051) | 2 years ago | I have to admit I never read the book either. When the movie came out I wasn't really into reading Stephen King. I was more into historical romance but I did like the movie. The show is very good as well. I haven't watched it recently. I need to find out when it's on again so I can try to.

Shaun72 (11381) | 2 years ago | Yeah after I had watched the eposides and saw the original one on Sci Fi I rented the second one so when it come on television I was so happy because I wanted to see the one with Anthonthy Micheal Hall.

4. kitchenwitchoftupper (1380) | 2 years ago | I'm most certain that I did read the book as I was a huge Steven King fan a long time ago; but my memory fades as age glows. I was not too crazy about the tv series because they played up the romantic angle a bit too much - if not for that, I would have really loved it. And, I was a bit disappointed when his partner cut his hair too.:) ~Donna

emeraldisle (9051) | 2 years ago | I know how that goes with the age and trying to remember if I read a book or not:) Yeah he did look better originally. I liked him better with the longer hair but maybe he wanted it cut. I don't know on that one.

5. elkhawk (1602) | 2 years ago | I did see the original movie. It was very good. I love Christopher Walken. He is such a great actor and I always like seeing him in different movies. I love the TV show too. I'm looking forward to seeing the new season. I like the TV show better than the movie because there is so much more to it and we have learned so much more.

6. 1983tyler (439) | 2 years ago | I've read the book, watched the original movie and watched the series. The series is very good, but doesn't hold to the book. The original movie was much closer to the book than the series is.

7. wellamoose (1144) | 2 years ago | I also enjoy the tv series. We haven't been watching it recently because we haven't found any new episodes. Have they still been making them? I have seen the movie a couple of times. I'm not a big Christopher Walken fan, but he did a good job on the movie. He has always kinda creeped me out. I had the book, but I think I loaned it to a friend and never got it back. So, I have yet to actually read it. I like most things by Stephen King though.

emeraldisle (9051) | 2 years ago | Yeah I can see why he could creep you out. He has done a few movies where he has that look about him that kind of gives you the willies. Oh I hate when I loan out books and never get them back. I've had that happen a few times too. It always bums me out because usually then I really want to read it.

8. charlene2350 (4857) | 2 years ago | I read the book, and I love anything that Stephen King writes. I even like his books by his other name, which I can't remember right now.

emeraldisle (9051) | 2 years ago | Richard Bachman is his other pen name. I haven't read any of those by him and only a handful of his books under the name Stephen King. I have liked most of them. A couple I didn't, like "The Tommyknockers". Overall though I think he does a great job of writing. "The Dead Zone" was one of his better projects in my opinion.
