Flooding in West Virginia.. |
| |
| My friends had gone to West Virginia for a visit. While they were there, the eastern United States was hit with storms that flooded the area where they were. There was severe weather covering several nearby states. You can see from this picture how much the water had risen in just a couple of hours. | | Flooding in West Virginia | | | | |

| | Welcome to global warming! there is going to be a lot more of this wierd weather in the near future because of it. You might want to view the movie An Inconvenient Truth. Makes me wonder if things would have been different if someone other than Bush had been elected 8 years ago. | | | | | | |

| | We have been used to flooding. It is more severe now because the ice bergs are melting. Instead of 4 hours flooding it stays for 3 days before it subsides. Those who are living near the oceans and seas suffer more devastations. Many were always killed. | | | | | | |

| | We live much further inland. We don't have the flooding here like many other areas. My friends weren't expecting to be caught in this kind of a storm when they went on their vacation. | | | |

| | That is a hassle when you are in vacation. You are expecting happenings and then this flood. | | | |

| | That was what I was thinking when I finally heard from them. I knew what general area they were, but not the exact location, and then I kept hearing about the storms and the flooding... I am relieved now that they are home. | | | |

| | We really don't see this kind of thing here, but earlier this year we had a really bad rain that washed a large section of our road away. I have never seen that much water rushing down the roads here before. | | | |

| | Yes, I also live in Michigan now (actually where I was born) and I haven't seen it that bad here although last summer we had a rain storm that was so bad the drainage ditch next to my house was overrun. I think that's the worst I've ever seen it here. | | | |

| | That may have been the same storm. We had so much rain and it came on so fast that the roads were all underwater. The road just past from my house was washed away, leaving it impassable for several weeks. | | | |

| | Ours was last year - it was crazy, we lost power because a tree came down up the road from our house took out power lines and also blocked the road. We live on main street so traffic was backed up in front of my house for a couple hours. My son and a friend of his were here and the three of us sat on the front porch watching the rain, traffic, and the boys rescued a baby raccoon from the culvert next to our house - water rushed in so fast the poor thing got trapped the boys lifted the grating off to let it out. I'm really disappointed, with no power I took the time to write a story about the raccoon on paper and now can't find it - I've searched and searched and it seems the whole notebook is missing. | | | |

| | Maybe one of these days when you least expect it it will turn up again. I'm glad that they saved the baby raccoon. | | | |

| | Oh thank you for the BR and guess what? A few days ago I was working on cleaning my 'office' which is one corner of the dinning room we rarely use for dinning. My daughter and 2 grandchildren were here and in the process of trying to sort 'junk' in a box and finish before the little ones got bored I mentioned to my daughter I was looking for that story at the same time. She reached into another box of 'junk'. First thing she pulled out was a spiral note book, paged through it and yep - she found it! Now when I have some down time I'll have to type it up and see how silly I actually got - I've never tried writing for children so this will be a first. | | | |

| | They made it home safely, but I was scared for them because I kept hearing about the nor’easter and the flooding, and hadn't heard from them for a couple of days. I was relieved when they got home and called me! | | | |

| | These floods happen every year in the southern parts of WV. A majority of the people live below the poverty level. It may be partially caused by global warming but I think it is because of development. Rich people are moving to WV because the land is cheap. When the landscape is altered with roads, houses and concrete the natural ways have been changed. The water has to go somewhere. I can take you to 3 abandoned Wal-Marts. They are also a contributor to this problem. Personally I think they are allowing it to scare out the poor folks and the rich can redevelop the area. | | | | | | |

| | I suppose that could be part of the problem. While they were out there all I kept hearing was about the nor’easter and the flooding, then she sent me these pictures and a video clip with the water rushing down the road. She said he water went up by about 6 feet in about an hour at the place where she took the pictures. | | | |

| | I guess that is true, here in Michigan we have got pretty much everything. We have hot summers, cold winters, blizzards, hailstorms, severe thunderstorms, and even occasional tornadoes mixed in every now and then. Like the old saying goes, if you do not like the weather in Michigan, just wait five minutes and it will change. | | | |
