Have you eaten caviar? How was it served? is it raw? would you eat it again? what prompted you to try it - did you think you were going to like it or was it due to peer pressure or because it was the "posh" thing to do? maybe just some curiosity?Do the different colors have different flavors?I don't think I could willfully get my self to try caviar, the look of it - the smell - the texture, I just do not think I can wrap my mind (or tongue for that matter) around it!

Yes I have. I have had it still inside the fish (fish was fried/grilled)... It's a bit like eating egg yolks.

I've bought the packaged ones, but I don't really know how to cook it. I tried frying it and it popped out of the pan.... I don't know any real gourmet way to cook this unfortunately

Yes, Modestah. I've eaten Caviar. I love it. It is best served on crackers or used as a garnish. It's not raw. It's processed. It comes mostly from Sturgeon.

Caviar is an acquired taste like sardines. I ate my first caviar out of curiosity but it became one of the things I really enjoy. It's a bit pricey but for the most part, a good garnish if you are cooking gourmet and want to impress someone.

I've had it a couple of times but it's been several years. It's very salty and slightly fishy. It's not too bad. I had it once on bread and crackers and another time it was part of a fish dish.

I have eaten caviar just the once when I attended a posh party. It is definitely an acquired taste. I did not like it at all. I have eaten fish roes lots of times and I love them but I could not get myself to eat caviar again.

I tried caviar once, but I didn't really want to. lol It was in a class and the teacher brought some for us to try and wouldn't let us leave till we tried it. We had it on crackers. I really didn't like it and I actually felt a little sick for awhile afterward, but that was probably a psychological thing since I was grossed out by it. lol I would never eat it again though.

I have not tried caviar, and I have no desire to try it. I dont think you could pay me enough money to put that into my mouth.

myLot reputation of 85/100. Modestah (7525)   ranked 280 out of 9,087 in cooking  2 years ago

well, you bring up an interesting thought. I think I might could be convinced to try it..... if they paid me enough cash!

I have heard of worse things than caviar to eat, but I have not tried any. I have heard it's quite salty, and the expense alone is enough for me to refrain. If someone offered me some to try, I'm not sure whether I would or not. But then again, I'm very, very rarely around anyone who eats it anyway. lol

Yes I have tried it - black and red caviar - it has a salty taste but more than that I like the texture, the way it feels when you eat it - like the culinary equivalent of bursting bubble-wrap, I would describe it. I had ti served on crackers too or just eaten straight by the spoonful.

oh, oh oh. now that is some good imagry there - popping bubbles. I think I will stick with pop rocks for that thrill, lol. Did you have pop rocks as a kid in Australia?

I'm like you, just couldn't do it. I have had the opportunity several times but yuk - it stinks, the texture and just the thought of 'fish eggs' turns my stomach. I don't care how 'posh' it is - same goes for snails don't eat those either.

myLot reputation of 85/100. Modestah (7525)   ranked 280 out of 9,087 in cooking  2 years ago

LOL! snails, oh dear. My husband tried to get me to try them - said they were delicious, I felt no desire to prove him wrong. How about Baluk? I think I would sooner eat caviar than developed duck fetus.

Agree with you on that one also - now I did eat snake meat once but it was in the form of jerky after much pursuasion from my oldest son and it actually was tasty, just don't think of the slithery source.

I love it. It is served on ice. It is raw. Yes I would eat it again. It is very expensive. So i wait until I am on a cruise and get it. It is salty and a required taste. The different colors are because of where it comes from.

If you are given the chance try it on a cracker it will be something you can say you tried once.
