Did you follow in a parent's footsteps in career?

I did not follow my parents , they are both chemical engenieers and I became an executive assistant/french teacher.In a way I understand what they mean after becoming a parent , you want what you think is best for them,even though some might argur that is too much over protection,but you want to save your kids from the fire that burnt your hand,just an example.I would never do that to my own kids , because now I realize that I was focused on doing what my parents did not do , or doing what they did not want me to do , and forgot what I really wanted to do.
