I myself have never lived in a big city, I have always lived in rural small towns. I just was wondering, because we are considering moving closer to my husbands work, which do you prefer. Do you get used to all the hustle and bustle of living in the city?

I'm the opposite. I grew up in the city and now live in the country. I prefer the country. It was a bit of culture shock, but now I love it. I wouldn't mind living a little closer to a large city but I would never want to live in one again. It is very peaceful here and I wouldn't trade it for the hustle and bustle. As I said, living closer to a city might be good for the sake of convenience, but I love my peace and quiet and more relaxed pace.

myLot reputation of 98/100. tdbrower1969 (1064)   ranked 15 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

I can relate to the peace and quiet. I just think it might be easier for me to get ahead in my Home and Garden Party if I was inside city limits. Out where I live, even if I host an open house, most people I know would not want to drive out to view my products. My husband grew up in the city and he would be ok with it, I am just not sure that I would. I don't enjoy hearing cars go by at all ours of the night. But, we will have to see what becomes available to rent and give it a try.

Yes, it might be better for your current needs if you rent or buy a home in the city. I hope you find a place that makes you happy and helps you get ahead in your home business. Home and Garden parties sound like fun, although I do understand how difficult it can be to host and book parties out in the boonies. Best wishes.

I have never lived in a large city in my life. I dont think I would like it at all though. I am a country gal. I love to out and hike and pick wild flowers. I was raised in the country. It was an hour and a half to the nearest town and it was a very small town. I like to work in the garden and hunt in the woods. I would never survive in the city.

myLot reputation of 98/100. tdbrower1969 (1064)   ranked 15 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

That is kind of what I am afraid of. But, we are going to try renting for 6 months and then decide where to live, in the country or in the city.

myLot reputation of 99/100. villageanne (5824)   ranked 45 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

That sounds like the best way to do it. I usually do not encourage renting as it is just making someone else rich but in this case, I think it may be the best solution until you decide what is right for you. Good luck

myLot reputation of 98/100. tdbrower1969 (1064)   ranked 15 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

Thank you, I am hoping to hear on a rental house tomorrow. It seems like it takes forever for them to look at the paperwork, show the house, and make the decision who gets to rent it. I guess that is why I would not like having rental property, there are so many things you have to do to have it rented out, and upkeep.

myLot reputation of 99/100. villageanne (5824)   ranked 45 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

Maybe you wont have to live in a rental too long.

myLot reputation of 98/100. tdbrower1969 (1064)   ranked 15 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

I hope that by the end of the year we will be able to start looking for a house to buy. I think that in the winter it seems that the prices for houses go down some.

myLot reputation of 99/100. villageanne (5824)   ranked 45 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

Yes, I agree that the prices of homes go down in winter. Seems everyone shops in spring and summer months. Good luck to you and your family.

I think so, too. I feel more at peace in the country, the air seems a little bit cleaner and the noise level is quieter than in cities.

I absolutely love the city! I love the noise and the people and all the excitement. Plus, I love being able to walk to bars and restaurants and not worry about driving or cabbing home. Maybe when I get older I'll crave the country, but for now, I can't imagine ever wanting to leave the city!

myLot reputation of 98/100. tdbrower1969 (1064)   ranked 15 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

I am glad that you love the city, and actually I have been staying in the new house for 4 days, and I have not been bothered by living closely with the neighbors, or the noise. I don't think that it will be as bad as I imagined it would be. My son is having a blast meeting the kids on our block, and being able to ride his bike on the street instead of always having to ride in the grass.

myLot reputation of 98/100. tdbrower1969 (1064)   ranked 15 out of 60 in missouri  2 years ago

Thank you, little_angel. I grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone else, and yes the traffic was minimal. I moved to another small town when I was 25, but we lived on a gravel road in a rural area, and people would drive 55 on it and that made it very dangerous. The city that we have moved to is not too big, and we found a house in a very nice quiet neighborhood. We have only been here for a couple of weeks, so I guess we will see!

I prefer living in the country. I like visiting the city but I would not want to live there.

myLot reputation of 98/100. tdbrower1969 (1064)   ranked 15 out of 60 in missouri  1 year ago

I know, but we have been in the rental house for almost a month, and it is not bothering me at all. I have met most of my neighbors and we talk and sometimes walk together in the evening. It is fun, and i am really enjoying it for now, I guess sometimes change is good.
