Do you keep a telephone Index near the lan line telephone?

Other than telephone directory, i have kept a telephone index where i have written all the telephone numbers of our family friends, some important numbers like electricty department, gas company, cable Tv company, local telephone exchange number, call taxi numbers, fire service, ambulance service, police emergency, all the mobile numbers of our home people.
Actually iam maintaining this record specially for my mom who stays alone in home.If there is any emergency she can use this numbers.
Do you have one directory near your phone /kept it in cupboard or you just store important numbers in your mobile phone?

I have a Small space on the telephone itself where i can have all the important phone numbers noted. I don't maintain any separate index other than marking few important numbers on the sheet provided with the phone.
I have the telephone numbers listed in a book which i categorize like Family/ Friends/ Relatives/ Grocery shops/ Mechanics or Plumbers and so on. My mom stays back at home and she might need to call some one which makes her duty easier if she wants to find some number.
I do have my mobile as well as my daddy which do contain all the contacts that are also seen in the directory which i maintain at my home. That way we don't be missing any one.
