What to do about Stage Fright? | | I have known people who have stage fright.. i have been one of those who have that. At school, i was struggling every time i have to do a recitation in front of the class, whoah, i felt terribly nervous, i could feel my heart thumping faster and my hands very cold. Lolz. But i was forced to speak in front of people at school so maybe somehow my stage fright was kinda lessened. I dont know but i think i still am struggling with it somehow. Now, everytime i have to speak in front of a crowd i just pretend i didn't have it. What do you think causes stage fright.. Do you think we have to conquer it? What do you think we should do to overcome it? Share your thoughts... or maybe even scientific explanations about this.:)

They include lack of proper preparation, lack of self confidence, the 'halo effect', certain diseases(e.g LPR/GERD) that impair speech, being afraid of criticism, wanting to be a perfectionist, etc. When I was having a great measure of self confidence, I used to look forward to public presentations and speeches, as they gave me an opportunity to show off my academic brilliance. However, since I have suffered from LPR/GERD, my speech has suffered a great setback, making me lose concentration and confidence. Before I got to know about the LPR/GERD, I had thought that the stage fright resulting from my throat uncertainties was due to some mental or psychological problems. I advice that you explore your own possible cause(s), and proceed from there for a solution. Good luck.

That fear actually makes us to get ourselves more well-prepared before we perform on stage. Performing in a group of people wont be as scary as performing alone as you will not attract all the attention to yourself only when you are performing in groups. I am also experiencing stage fright, I try to control my fear without letting it affect my performance. I take a big breathe before starting my performance and that works pretty well. Having fear while performing doesnt help us on performing better, so why do we let such fear affects our emotions so much? This is what I say to myself when I am having such fear.:)
