Assisted Suicide

Some diseases are very very painful and there is no cure for them. In such diseases sometimes I feel that if patient takes the help of physician for suicide is justified. But when I think if that is not done then may be the patient must have lived for longer time. So this topic is very confusing one.

I do believe we should be able to die with dignity. Not to paraphrase assisted suicide as necessarily "dying with dignity", but to continue to keep someone on life support when there is no hope of recovery or the quality of life would be severely diminished, seems cruel. It is an understatement to say that it is very difficult to let loved ones go, but all of our miracles of medicine cannot always take the place of what God (if you will) has intended. If laws were in place to monitor assisted suicide, at least the person's psychological state could be taken into consideration as to when this decision was made. For example, are they making the decision during feelings of depression and desperation or hopelessness? Also, what are the person's prospects for recovery and achieving a quality of life that is acceptable by their standards?
