How to improve English?  

Okay, one serious question...why would you choose English as your major if you're not interested in it?

I had the worst time just getting my highschool English done. We were in a semester type of highschool and it took me 5 semesters to get a passing grade in grade 9 English. That works out to be two and a half years. I am not a stupid person, I just had a hard time understanding what they teachers were trying to get me to learn. Susan

every person is good in speaking his own mother tounge.have u ever thought why?its bcoz every persons brain thinks in his own mother tounge,he does not need to stammer or hault to find out new words.so what i suggest is one should start thinking in tht language to improve it.best of luck.!

the most important to do is speak with an qualify person in the linguistic, puts your head on and practice a lot.

Let me share with you a trick that I used when I was in Spain learning Spanish. It is not really a secret trick, but only one effective way to learn any language. First, read aloud to yourself. Do this everyday, even if you don't understand at all what you are reading. The important thing here is to familiarize your mouth in pronouncing the words and at the same time familiarizing your ear to hear the same words. If you can have somebody listen to you and correct you, that would be better.
Secondly, read comic books. In Spain I had a locker full of Spanish comic books which I read before I slept, or when I was in the toilet, even while eating lunch or dinner. The point here is to recognize words that are used in the proper context, as illustrated in the drawing. Comics illustrations have a way of simplifying the actions and using simple terms to convey emotions, actions, intentions and outcome of the situations being presented.
Thirdly, force yourself to think in English and don't just translate from your native tongue into English before you express yourself.
One way to gauge your progress after some time is when you start to dream in English. If you have started to dream in the language you are studying, that means you have already internalized it and fluency is the next step.

Hm.. first of all u have to interested English as well, or try to talk with frens from other country, usually it helps so much.... cos we always want to explain in english and make us try to find the english word to xplain. :)n try to read a lot.... u'll get used in reading too... just double ur practice i think :)

Read at least for 15 minutes any material loudly. The moment you come to know of any new word, see the meaning immediately in the dictionery. Watch people how they are talking english and how they are using words. This will take you to a good level of English very soon. Best of luck.

my that is a bad thing that you are not intersted in English, , you know intrestintg is the best teachter , if you have no intersting on this, your Englihs will be very hare to improve, I think first of all you shoould change your idea on this, and then study hard , I know my Englihs is bad, but now I have lots fo intresting on this, so ,these days ,my english improved quickly .good luck, my dear friend.

Practice, practice, practice. Aside from reading, practice English by speaking it most of the time. It would be good to have people around you speak English so that you become used to speaking the language. Aside from grammar and reading classes, real life English experience could do wonders. Don't get disappointed at once; a philosopher once said that fear is the twin of failure. Never give up; after repetitive practice, you sure will succeed. Good luck.
