Why do "world strongest" and "tough man" contests seem to have Russians as

I often wondered the same thing- I love watching the Strong Man contests. The men gross me out with how big they are—but the contests they do are pretty cool to watch. I like it when they have to pull the semi trucks! Imagine that! There are very few Americans- Could it be that the American competitors are weeded out prior to the Finals?? Is there a policy like in the states about the non-use of Steroids? Perhaps other countries do not frown on this? You would think though that there would be testing before entering into the competition. Good question.

My husband's thoughts on this is that men in Russia are all trained like the Russian boxer in Rocky 4. He actually drove me crazy all hockey season because he insisted Malkin was trained like that, with wires hooked up to him in a lab with scientists monitoring him. I know he is joking, but grrrr....that man can drive me nuts :)

I think it is because the are more disciplined in their lifestyle such as eating and exercising.

I belive it is because this type of sport has greater popularity in those countries than it does in North America.
