Theoretically independence is a state of mind. But the notion fail in real circumstances. However we cannot definitely say that independence is entirely dependent on the circumstances. At times the state of mind of a person also determines his existence. Therefore it is dependent on individual attitudes and personality of the individual in question.

From what I have concluded, independence is a state of mind controled by an indepently oriented individual and with an independent personality as well. Because I think to have an independent state of mind; is to have the ability not to rely on others and have the courage to stand up for what you believe is right. Regardless of others criticism and plans to bring you down. And indepence is from the sovereignty of each individual, to strive for things to be better, for a better and independent existence. Where they can freely exercise their indepent state of mind and personality. My friend, I hope I made sense..(^^,LOL) Well, have a great day! (^^,)

You can say that independence is a state of mind. After all, it is the individual who perceives as to how independent or dependent he is. We can hear others who claims that they are already independently running their own lives, yet for us, they are not that independent at all.
