if you want to say sorry to someone, what method you will express your sorry?

if you want to say sorry to someone, whether you will say sorry to him directly face to face, or you will say sorry in Tel ,email ,or message? which method your prefer?

i prefer face to face.. but if he/she is far away from me. i'd message or call that someone.. as long as sincerity is there, they would eventually understand.
