Laws for Stds?

I´m just curious if anyone knows what the laws are in Canada regarding someone purposely giving an STD to a lover. This happened to a friend of mine and she just found out the guy is married and has four kids. He supposedly had no idea that he had herpes, but she just found out from his wife that he has had it since his first wife. Is this a good base for a court case? My friend is badly affected and has to take rather expensive meds every day for the rest of her life. She feels (so do I) that the guy ought to pay for her medication, especially since he knew he was giving it to her.

There are a lot of countries out there that do hold people responsible for giving someone an std especially if they know that they have it. It all depends on the country that you live in.

yes, I believe it is criminal and as such deserves to be punished. But, I believe the same about adultery.

This case and all like it should be taken to a criminal and civil court. To past this on to someone "knowingly" is cruel. This person has no regard for anyone or anything and needs to be shown the way to a jail cell before he does it to someone else.
