Why is it that people borrow money from you then immediately offer to buy

I have just seen something with Emmerdale that I realise rings true in real life. Somebody had just borrowed a great deal of money and immediately offered to buy the lender a drink!
I have seen this happen lots of times, so come on, ye philosophers, why DO people immediately spend some of the money they have borrowed to buy the person loaning the cash a drink?

I know, and usually they buy the drink with such a magnaminous air, as if they are buying it out of their own money not borrowed money lol. Shane Macgowan even put that in a song "if you lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink" lolololol.

I know, very magnaminous with other peoples money, to be sure. Oh well, I should think it is in other songs too, but Shane Macgowan is a pretty good guess for drinking songs lol.

But why do they buy the drink out of the money they need that they have just borrowed, not buy the drink when they pay the money back?

That is a nice idea, I think the one above is probably the right one, though to get them drunk so they can't remember lending the money lol.

hahahahahahaha I love it! There is a certain logic in that, I must admit. Thank you!

I do this often. I think it is so that the blow of borrowing money will be softened by generosity. I remember one nigth I went borrow £30 off of my friend so I went and bought in a orund for 3 of us and it was £10. The money was intended to last me a few days but yet instantly I had spent a third of it and I thought I was crazy.
I am glad you have said that other poeple do it too though. Whenever someone tried this with me I tell them that they are mad and refure it. I suppose some people accept it as interest on the borrowings.
But anyway, you watch Emmerdale? I think it is totally rubbish but do find myself watching it often unfortunatley. It is on at that time when it is just rubbish on the other channels. I think that is why it's ratings are so good.

Yes, I helped to run a club for sixteen years and it is totally, absolutely normal!
As to Emmerdale, yup, I watch it, I enjoy it, and I write about it in the blogs etc and write to them when they get something wrong. They should put me on the staff lol.
Sorry you find it such rubbish, but then the next programme you like after that is probably even more enjoyable to you. Takes all sorts lol.
