There is a fascinating article on this topic that I have just finished reading (http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/4/24/12934/9687) and the gist of it demonstrates that there is no overall shortage of food in the world today, just that the distribition of it is completely wrong. It also discusses whether a return to organic farming is viable given the current and ongoing population explosion.
What do you think?

I have not yet read the article you mentioned but yes I agree hunger in the world is not due to shortage. There is plenty of food for everybody in the planet. I have heard about companies who throw their overstock of wheat just because they want the price to go up. If there is plenty then the price will be cheap. That's so wrong to do that while many people are dying from hunger especially in Africa.

It ought to be a criminal offence to waste resources like that don't you think?
