For me its probably a spoon because you can usually eat anything with it. It you having soup? no problem. If it is like desert? spoon works. Mashed potatoes? same. The spoon is more versatile. What's you favourite eating utensil? Why? Do you prefer to use your fingers instead?

For a Chinese like me it's probably a pair of chopsticks. We can eat anything easily by using it except soup. It's so convenient and easy to take noodles by using a pair of chopsticks.

I like the fork better. I find myself eating most of the food with it except soups, off course.

I usually prefer forks unless it's soup.

Yes fingers are the cheapest, creative and most thoughtful eating utensil but I don't like using it much, especially around people. Spoon works for me as well because I can scoop up ice cream, soup, rice, milk or anything with a spoon and if I need to mash anything up then the spoon can do it too. Unfortunately those in poverty do not even have the luxury of a spoon so I guess fingers are the most common eating utensil.

Yes I agree with you that spoon is the most versatile eating utensils that I think every body prefers to have this while eating.
