How do you calm your dog down when he/she gets hyper?

A friend of mine from high school was getting married this past weekend. So my boyfriend and I went up and stayed at my mom's. Her puppy is such a cutie. He's a little over a year old and still VERY hyper. I feel like if he wasn't so hyper he would listen to her better. I've heard people say they make a little chamomile and mint tea and pour a little of it over their food. There have been a few other suggestions that I have heard. I was wondering if any of you myLotters have experienced a hyper dog and what you did to help calm them down some. Anything you would like to share that work? Anything that completely does not work? That's Kodi down below...who desperately needs a bath. He goes to the groomers this week for a bath and "puppy cut".

My one year old german shepard mix TaTa is a very hyper dog. I normally will play ball with her several times a day to help expel some of her energy. Sometimes we take a long walk as well. I haven't heard of giving a dog anything but exercise to help when the are hyper sorry.

That's okay. I appreciate the response. I was thinking that my mom needs to spend more time trying to entertain him. He gets a decent amount of exercise but I was thinking maybe he still needs more. He's a big boy so it couldn't hurt.

The best way to get them to calm down is rub behind their ears. It really does work. There is a litte nook right behind it and you just rub right there on each ear. Also rubbing their paws helps them relax and calms them down.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think Kodi would really enjoy the behind the ea rub. I'm not sure about the feet as he gets silly when you play with his paws. It is worth a shot though!
