Fishing season,
Fishing season is fast approaching and I would like to get my daughters into the activity a bit. At least to have the experience. My father took my brother and I fishing quite a bit when we were younger and I cherish some of those memories....although I remember very little of the logistics of it!
Would you recommend for their beginning adventures - river fishing or lake fishing? (assume that no boat will be available and the fishing will be done from the shoreline) do you use live bait (or formerly live bait as the case may be, hehe) or lures?
Which is your favorite to use of either kind? for instance if using live bait - do you prefer night crawlers, or shrimp, or corn? etc.
Consider also that these are girls who may be a little squeamish of piercing a living worm. (I know their mother is for sure!)
How about a pole for starters, any recommendations? what should I look at in regards to the reel as well? nothing too elaborate or expensive - but a certain attribute I might should look for?
Thank you for your help!

My husband loves to fish. He got both our grandkids a fishing pole last fall from cokerewards.com. They were home for a visit the week before Easter and he took them fishing at the lake and they loved it. We live right beside a large river and they loved to fish there too. They are only two and three years old though.

If your girls are pretty young, maybe a kid-themed pole would be perfect as a starter. We don't take our girls fishing regularly, but we do participate in the annual fishing derby that is held in my community. We bait the hooks for them, but they do the rest. The fishing derby is held at our city park, and the lake is stocked with trout. We used worms, mealy worms, and minnows as our bait.
The kiddie poles come with a reel, and generally, a 6 lb. weight fishing line is used on the reel.
Good Luck!
