What quantity of water quenches an elephants thirst?

Looking at a giant animal like an elephant drinking water often makes me wonder at the designs of mother nature! Firstly, how the trunk sucks such volumes of water and jets it into the mouth and body is just amazing! How much water can an elephant drink to quench it thirst? One drum?
