Crows scare me |
| |
| We have suddenly acquired a flock of crows which are nesting in our cherry tree. I have lived here for twelve years and this is the first time they have arrived. I am a country person and there is an abhorrance of crows too near the home as they are thought to be harbingers of death and sickness. To be honest I am uncomfortable with them being there, although I do know this is a totally irrational fear, I wish they would go far, far away. What do you know about crow folklore, have you found any of it to work out as being true, and what do you think of crows generally? | | | | | |

| | I don't disagree that they are nice looking birds, but I just like them to look pretty somewhere else, far away from my home. Have you any idea where the superstition came from, as you are country folk too? | | | |

| | Crow were thought to be symbolic of spiritual and physical death and is often used in the occult. They also are social and travel in large groups. The calling sounds that they make are unnerving to say the least. I think a lot of people associate crows or ravens with witches/superstition and the like and that is why a lot of people just are uncomfortable around large flocks of crows. Also the color, they are pure black may have some bearing on the feeling of doom when these birds are around. I used to hear stories when I was younger that if you saw a crow on your window sill it meant a death in the family. After hearing things like this as a child, how can one feel comfortable around such birds? | | | | | | |

| | Thank you for that :-) I don't mind the noise they make, I have three in here that can outwhistle and screech the pack of them lol. I just find that they have decided to roost here just as we have a double massive bereavement anniversary and a few family problems who have come home to roost. When I was a child we would eat practically any meat but not crows. | | | |

| | Oh yes I do not like the crows as well they are very annoying. Yes I have heard folklore stories about this that they are supposed to heath death and sickness from family members or someone close. I don't blame you wanting them to go far far away as I would as well. I do not like them at all as they used to swoop down low and take pieces out of people head here in Australia. | | | | | | |

As to my Boys (they won't answer to Ladies, after all this time!) they are little Angels, honest! If you support Other Half and Pa in Law in this absolutely ridiculous, aggravating, annoying, preposterous venture to breed these critters YOU can have the babies THERE until they are old enough to depart. So I take it you are now firmly on my side, in all this (evil grin).

| | Well, Darkwing,I don't know about a live corpse but gabs will be catatonic if the things dive bomb her. I got crows out the front, doves and magpies out the back and a house alarm across the road that makes the whole kaboodle plus my three tweet for England. I can't hear the alarm but I can hear this lot! I still don't like the crows though, however good they are. The changes you were saying about are happening and they are very stressful and still not sure which way they are going to jump. you will have to visit, bring the lavender tincture and seeds, and see what you make of all the vibes. Oh, second thoughts, better bring a lightning conductor too, you know why! | | | |

| | Well, you had a crow in your house too a couple of weeks back, because I was born under the sign of Libra and the crow is my totem animal. ha ha ha! Less of the 'old'!:-( Perhaps I tempted them along, or had you thought about the "bite" you got... could be relevant. I'm pleased to tell you that crow lore is not all bad. What you say is true to lore but in contrast, Mr Crow knows the unknowable mysteries of creation and is the keeper of all sacred law. Crow medicine people are masters of illusion. You shouldn't even attempt to try and figure Mr Crow out for he is the power of the unknown at work, and something special is about to happen. He is also the guardian of ceremonial magic and healing. In any healing circle, Mr Crow is present... he guides the magic of healing and the change in consciousness that will bring about a new reality and dispel "disease" or illness. You can rest assured that whenever crows are around, magic is nearby and you are about to experience a change in consciousness. Mr. Crow can give you the courage to enter the darkness of the void, which is the home of all that is not yet in form. Mr Crow is an omen of change, and if he keeps appearing to you he may be telling you that you have a powerful voice when addressing issues that you do not quite understand or feel that they are out of balance. He is the bringer of messages from the spirit world, and is thought to dwell beyond the realm of time and space. When you meet Mr Crow, he could be telling you that there will be changes in your life and that possibly you should step by the usual way you view reality and look into the inner realms... walk your talk...be prepared to let go of your old thinking and embrace a new way of viewing yourself and the world. Does that make you feel a little better, my friend? I'm sure you can see the relevance, as I can, of what happened last week? It bears thinking about, don't you think? A very interesting discussion, Shelagh, which has put my thoughts on another plane now. ha ha ha. Brightest Blessings my dear friend... have no fear. The negative lore was only triggered off by one event. Love and hugs. x + rating | Mr Crow

| | It also might interest you to know, Shelagh that Cherry Blossom is a sign of spiritual beauty; and the Cherry Tree, a sign of education. Taking into account that Mr. Crow is a messenger from the spiritual world, and the cherry blossom is out at the moment, that kind of ties in, don't you think? :-) Just an added thought, my friend. :-) | | | |

| | Well, that is very interesting. Thank you very much darkwing and I am going to suspend all humour in this response apart from noting that you are nothing whatsoever like a crow! And, if you remember, I told you how young you look, which you do. No, on to all this, which I have copied to refer back to. The healing is very interesting since, as you know I am considering a Spiritual healer since all the orthodox medicine has failed. The change, however, scares me to death. Every change I have ever had has been traumatic, sudden, and absolutely horrific, in some cases actually life threatening to myself. In the context of our previous real world discussion, yes I am looking for the way, and maybe this is a Sign, since we have never had the Crows before, but I still would rather a different Messenger had called, as I am heavily conditioned to be terrified of them. Many hugs and thanks and I will contemplate all that, my dear Friend. | | | |
Darkwing (7548)
|

| | Well, I think maybe they visited you to bring the message, from the spiritual world, that spiritual healing could be a good choice by you. So perhaps put that feeling of doubt behind you and progress in faith? The other thing you mentioned... yes, again, it could be a sign of acceptance. Tell me... have the crows been back since, and how many of them were there, three by any chance? I would be interested to know the answer to that. Strange how many people fear crows, and that fear all grew from one event. | | | |

| | I am certainly going to go to the healing clinic as nobody else has helped. I can't understand how somebody who is sick can actually heal others but the medics can't cure the healer - any ideas on that one? I have only ever seen one at a time, but they don't travel in one's, I shall try to keep an eye on them and count, but I am in the rear room now, so I have doves and magpies (No, I ain't seen seven yet lol)outside the window. Fear of crows has been inbred in me from three generations back. I am happier if they nest elsewhere. However, we shall see what they herald and where it leads me and where that road forks and so on. Will be interesting, won't it, and that is the important thing. | | | |
Darkwing (7548)

| | Unpleasant, they look like little fat old men, lol. They can make a whole lot of noise and mess too. We went on holiday near a rookery a couple of years ago and they were really scary, pecking things and pinching the rubbish etc. The noise from 3 - 4am was awful. I think the common sense thing is that because they do go in the rubbish they can spread bugs but I havn't heard any folklore. All I can think of is the use in magic where they are pinned on a door as a warning or to keep away evil spirits, depending on your beliefs. I wouldn't feed the birds or leave anything edible around in the hopes that they move on when they've nested. Hope like heck they don't come back. | | | | | | |

| | Oh, these don't look very fat, they are just noisy and I don't like them because I have been brought up with a country dislike of the things. I would still rather they went somewhere else but they do seem very comfortable in the tree alas! | | | |

They have shoved everything they don't want in the lounge into the bedroom without putting up shelves for my files etc and everything gets slung onto the bed by day and then piled up on the oak chest thing I am sitting on at night. Very unsatisfactory. Funny really as I really do not like crows or magpies but the perishers have nested in the trees in the garden, I can't win, can I?

| | http://www.crowbusters.com/begart15.htm some crow stuff on there. I had a magpie on my window bird feeder the other morning, never thouht he'd be cheaky enought to stand on the window sill pinching the doves treats and watching me make a drink bless him but they live a long time so I guess he knows I wouldn't scare him purposefully. What I would say is that do you think the crows know about all the superstitions connected to them? | | | |

| | I am a country person. We used to make scarecrows (people dummies that move). We used to use alluminum pie tins tied to poles that banged and scared them away from our gardens. My cat keeps them from coming down in my yard, except when he hunts far away. In my area, they are saying to be very careful. The crows may have bird flu. If you find a dead crow, to alert the authorities, so they can test them. Don't touch them. So we are very happy to see them alive. Dead ones could mean that we have an epidemic on our hands. So far the dead ones are hundreds of miles south of us. We hope the problem clears up south of us and we don't get it up here. So be careful. Tell children not to touch dead birds. | | | |

| | Ya know, crows are bad luck if you see them by themselves, but in Wales, a pair of crows is a good omen. In New England, a pair of crows is bad luck but only if they're flying from the left. And seeing a dead crow in the road is supposed to bring good luck. But crows in a church yard are bad. I think generally, crows are feared and respected at the same time. Some in olden days would tip their hats to crows and ravens in order not to offend them. But I get a slight shudder too whenever I see a crow, raven, rook, or magpie. Royal birds of omens and death. | | | | | | |
