(update) 3 month pap smear email this discussion to a friend?

About 4 to 5 days ago I posted on here asking everyone to keep me in thier prayers that my pap smear comes back fine. Well my doctor called me tonight about 8:30 with the results. First of all I want to thank everyone that responded with thier prayers. But unfortunatly the results did not come back good. Three months ago when I had my first three month recheck pap it came back with some abnormalities that were not precancerous. The doctor said that it was normal for this to happen on the first pap after having a leep procedure done. Well this time it came back again with abnormalities but they are showing signs of starting to become precancerous. UGH!!! So now my doctor wants to send me to a specialist for a second opinion. If the specialist comes back with the same results then I will have to decide on one of two surgical options.

First option is to have a cone byopsee (sorry for mispelling) where they will take half of my cervix. This is not a major surgery but it is a little more than having a leep procedure. Min. hospital stay about 1 day. My only concerns with this is the fact that it still leaves me with a slight chance of having precancerous cells come back in the future.

Second option is to have a hestorectomy done. This is major surgery and a hospital stay of up to 5 days. Depending on how they do it and how quickly I recover. My concerns with this is I am only 28 years old and this surgery could put me into early minapause (again sorry for mispelling). The good news with this one is I don't have to worry about ever having cervical cancer.

At first my doctor was leaning to the first option because then I could still have kids. But then I informed him that after my last child was born I had my tubes tied. So having more kids is out of the question anyways. Then my doctor said that it is going to be left up to me and my husband as to which option I choose. I talked to my mom about it and she agrees with me that I would probably be better off to just get the hesterectomy done because, one I can't have any more kids anyways, and two I won't have to worry about cervical cancer ever again.

So there are my results and my options. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of those that responded the first time and kept me in your prayers. Please keep praying that this will all come out fine. God Bless!

First off I want to say good luck! I hope that when you get your second opinion that the results come back normal! If they don't -- remember that this can be fixed. You need to decide which is right for you- If you have your children and aren't planning on having more perhaps the hysterectomy is the best thing- This way you won't have to worry anymore- But like you said it is a major surgery- My mom had one at age 39. Be strong! Remember God doesn't give you what you cannot handle! I'll be thinking of you!

Thank you so much! I am definitly not planning on having anymore kids. That is why I had my tubes tied (otherwise known as a tubaligation) so I couldn't have anymore kids.

First of all HUGS to you! Secondly, I sure hope everything goes ok no matter what you choose. I think that if I were in your situation, I would go ahead and do the hesterectomy. It is a major surgery, but--as you said--you won't have to worry anymore and all of that. I will definately keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please make sure you keep us all informed.

Thank you for the support. I really appreciate it. So far everyone I have talked to is in agreement with me. So I think after I get this second opinion if I have to have surgery (which is a 90% chance of happening). I think I am going to go with the hesterectomy. My husband actually made me feel really good this morning. I want to share with you and everyone else a little note that he left me this morning on my night stand when I woke up.

Honey,
Try to relax and get some sun today. You are going to be fine.
I love you very much,
Lonny (that's my husbands name)

How sweet is that. It put a smile on my face. Especially since I was so upset last night and cried myself to sleep. It was nice waking up to that. And, I will most certainly keep everyone informed.

I am sorry that the results were not what we hoped that they would be......in light of these results though....I, personally would have the hysterectomy.....there are some good low-dose estrogens out there that can help with the impending hormonal changes.....why risk it again??

This is extremely difficult for you to have to stay in a constant state of turmoil....I do not mean that harsh....but cancer is not something to mess around with..

I wish that the Leep procedure would have worked but as much as I want to, my friend, I can not change it....neither can you....God can but has not...so reality dictates that you have a tough decision to make....please know that you have many people who are here to give you all the support we can throught this situation....

Be strong, my friend. You remain in my prayers! Blessed be.

It sounds like the hysterectomy would be the best option in your case. If you're worried about it sending you into early menopause though you might talk to your specialist about having a partial hystercetomy done instead. With that they only take the uterus and not the ovaries. They are what produce so many of the hormones that would cause problems such as early menopause and all the problems associated with it.The leep procedure...is that the laser procedure? I had that done when I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer a couple of years ago so I'm curious (I have one more chance at another child and then will be getting the partial hysterectomy done myself).I know you'll come out fine:) I know stuff like this is scary so here's an extra hug.*HUG*

hi,
I missed you other posts and just want to wish you the best.I too have had a LLETZ which is much the same procedure as a LEEP.So far my checks have been normal but i am experiencing severe symptoms every cycle and have been told it's from scarring caused by the surgery.I don't know if you experience it too. It's like being in labor basically and nothing can be done.I think the hysterectomy would be the best option. The more scar tissue on the cervix, the more problems.Like someone else mentioned, ask about a partial so the ovaries are left. Please keep us all up to date with how you are.

hi, I see this post was 3 months ago and I'm wondering what you choose to do and how your second opinion went. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this and I know what you are going through because I had cervical cancer and I had the conebiopsy (sorry if i misspelled) done back in 2004. It went okay and I've been cancer free for 3 years now. See there is a chance that the cone would work and the cancer wouldn't come back. I really hope that whatever you did choose worked out for you. Your in my prayers.

My mom went through the same thing. She is older than you but with the same situation. My mom chose to get the hestorectomy done and she is doing very well. Other than hot flashes here and there and sometimes mood swings, she is pretty healthy. I have always been afraid of being in the same situation. Hopefully I won't be. Good luck with whatever you decide. I am sure you will be fine if you choose to do the hestorectomy.
