When should a family appy for foodstamps??? Should they just keep trying and trying to make ends meet, or when they see that they have more bills than income and are having trouble buying foods is that when they should go apply??? Or sooner before their cabinets are empty??? Also when someone applies for foodstamps are they always talked down to like they should be able to do better???? Or is that just some workers that do that??? Also what is the poverty level in America today.

I'm not sure what the poverty level is here, it depends on the region. I think they should apply when they can't make ends meet and should stop using them when life gets better. Welfare shouldn't be a lifestyle, it should be a temporary solution to help a family get back on their feet. Some people talk down to them, but they shouldn't since they don't always know what's happening to the person that's on this aid.

I do not believe it should be a lifestyle either, but when someone is really tryng and they are working it looks like it would be okay short term. And I think that if someone is working in the foodstamp office they should not talk down to someone to the point they would rather do without than get the help they need. I have a friend who said she was talked to so rudely that she would never go back up there, and she is having a very hard time, her and her husband are disabled. Their kids are paying the bills for them and buying groceries for them, because they only have one small check per month., only 400 dollars I think the last I knew. Theoir nephew planted them a garden though so they will have some things later this summer. From that.

I say do it now, but in the long term, stop having babies and get your husband to work.

I can't have anymore children, also my husband works seven days a week twelve hour days on average. And we still do not have enough most of the time, not even when I am working., it seems everything costs way to much.

I'm not sure what poverty is like in America since i'm in Australia. We needed some help when we were living in the city, i was unable to work & the field my partner was qualified in meant we needed to be in the country - so we had trouble making ends meet. My partner worked what jobs he could get & we still struggled. The people were very helpful, they also sent us to a financial planner who helped us to work out our money better & when we moved to the country, everything worked out really well. The financial planner we saw helped us out a lot & gave us a lot of help on how to be better with money! I say, if you need help, go & see about getting help right away, don't leave it until it's too late.

I can't give you the actual stats on the poverty level, but a lot of people are hurting. If you can quality for food stamps, and need them then I would suggest rushing out and getting them. I would much rather see tax dollars be used to help legitmate people in need rather than going to illigale immigrants or other people who refuse to work or try.
