My favorite is "Ball and Chain". I have the version that was taped at Monterey. She was breath taking.I heard that she wanted to move people like Billie Holiday. Believe me she moved me.

I don't think there is any song she performed that I don't like. She put her body and soul into everything she did. There has been talk of making a movie about her life. Melissa Etheridge is interested in producing and starring in one. I love Melissa, but I don't truly think there is a woman alive today that can emulate Janis on the screen or in music! Just my humble opinion! Well, okay, maybe Joss Stone, but that is a big maybe. PEACE

You know if I were to cast the Janis Joplin movie, I would go for an actress who looked like her instead of looking for a singer who maybe able to act.Pearl's life is too powerful for a non actress to portray. For the concert footage, the actress can do what Jessica Lange did when she played Miss Patsy Cline, lipsink. There is no shame when you are playing a unique voice like Pearl or Patsy.

Absolutely, but I am still having a hard time figuring who that actress would be. Jessica Lange did a great job portraying Patsy, another one of my favorite singers. PEACE

My favorite Joplin song is a tossup between Piece of My Heart and Me and Bobby McGee. Bobby McGee probably wins overall, because I love the way it is so evocative of feelings. It's just an amazing song, with one of the best lines ever in m y opinion... Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose It's sooooooo cool, and I was in my late teens/early 20's when I first discovered these songs (aka, a long time ago), so they fit in great with that college angst. :) What an amazing talent she was, and what a shame she was gone so young, but I guess that's probably part of what makes her so intriguing even now. It's kind of like talking about Marilyn Monroe now. She remains young and lovely and we never had to deal with watching her get old. But I digress... thanks for getting me to think about these great songs with this post!

I was never a big fan, but I did like one song she sang. Not sure of the name but some of the lyrics: Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train, Feeling near as faded as my jeans. Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before a rain, took us all the ways to New Orleans. Pulled my (something) from my dirty red bandana Was playing soft while Bobby sang the blues. Maybe someone can fill in the blanks of my spotted memory or provide the title. Oh yeah, another line: Feeling good was easy Lord when Bobby sang the blues Feeling good was good enough for me, good enough for me and my Bobby McGee

I like her songs. When I listen to her, it's not enough to listen to just one song, I need to to hear my favorites, among them are Piece of my Heart, Try (Just a little bit harder), Bye bye baby, Summertime, Move over, Down on Me, Cry Baby, and yes ball and chain too. She makes me feel that I'm in another time, another place.

Janis Joplin, wow. My dad introduced me to her music when I was a little kid. I grew up on Bobbi Mcgee but my favourite is Summertime. I love the slow rolling feeling of it. I love her sultry voice when she sings it. Wow!

Summertime (the most amazing version of Summertime I have ever heard!) and the live version of Ball and Chain.
