i am here to tel you all about a condition called Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrom, also known ask ARDS. i developeed ARDS after my first few weeks of a 2 year hospital stay following a horrific car accident. ARDS was known as wet-lung in the Vietnam War era. ARDS is basically when your lungs become lazy and tend to have more fluid on them. Part of the lung becomes inflamed and therefore makes it hard for gas exchanges. ARDS is usually brought on by injury or illness, but what a lot of people do not realize is that you can even develop ARDS when going in for surgery. ANy time you are intibates, which always happens with a general anesthesia, you risk developing ARDS. ARDS has about a 45% mortality rate. Please, if you are going in for a surgery, do the local anesthesia if at all possible. Let the surgeon and the anesthesiologist know you want to breathe on your own. This will greatly reduce your risk of developing ARDS.
