Looking for a Sony PS3? Gamestop has a special this month... |
| |
| I thought I'd give everyone a heads up about the special Gamestop stores are running until 5/27/07. Basically if you trade in your old ps2, 2 controllers and a sony memory card, they will give you $100 off the cost of a brand new PS3. If you are on the fence about getting a PS3 because of the price involved, now might be the perfect time to get one. I was planning on waiting myself but I'm thinking it's a pretty good deal considering my PS2 is at least 6 years old. This offer appears to be in-store only as I don't see it listed on their website. Happy Gameing. | | | | | |

| | I had been debating wether or not to get one. There are only a few games that I have seen that I would want to play on it. I had been trying to wait to make sure it isn't bugged. When i got my first ps2 I got it when they FIRST came out and had to replace it not long after. Right now I am enjoying the xbox360 lol. I may get one but I still haven't decided. If I remember correctly they are backwards compatible right? I know the 360 is only with some games. | | | | | | |

| | I personally think the PS3 is going to be *the* system to own, as it just out processes everything out there. Also Sony (unlike microsoft) will support this system for a good 10 years. The addition of games on blueray discs allow for a huge amount of game data on each disk. When the games start flowing this system will be a monster. As far as backward compatibility is concerned it is a very good system. It will play most ps2 and ps1 games. The only games it will not play are imports, and anything recquring a special controller. This would include guncom games and unfortunetly Guitar Hero. The game itself would play, but the controller would not work. I'm sure there is a Guitar Hero in the works for PS3, so once a new controller comes out, GH 1 and 2 will work with no problems. I have a friend with a ps3 who says that the ps2 games play and look way better on the ps3. | | | |

| | The games i am more worried about being backwards compatible is my old favorites, Final Fantasy, God of war, Resident evil. Those kind of games you know? I know the system itself is going to be off the chain. I just want to make sure the bugs are out of it first. | | | |

| | It is backwards compatible with those games. My cousin just took up that gamestop offer yesterday and we spent most of the night playing with it. I think after checking it out, I will be getting my own in a week or two. We tested several games including Final Fantasy XII, and God of War and they worked just fine. The only caveat is that in order to transfer over any saved game files from the PS2 to the PS3 requires you to buy an adapter for about $15. | | | |

| | That's cool. I am not worried too much about the saved games. when i replay my games I generally overwrite the saves anyway. I know a lot of people don't even replay old games but I can't help myself. Games I enjoy I play over and over again. It helps relax me lol. I like looking for stuff that I didn't find the first time. I guess I am just weird like that lol. | | | |

| | Thanks for the update, filmbuff. We got a PS3 this past Christmas. Unfortunately, we haven't seen a lot of PS3 games (that we like)in the stores. Do you have any secret knowledge concerning PS3 games? | | | | | | |

| | I'm jealous that you have one already. :P Yeah lack of games is the big problem the PS3 is facing right now, but that will fixed soon enough. There are some very good looking games on the horizon so take heart. Lair is set to come out at the end of July and just looks fantastic. In it you play the whole game on the back of a dragon. You fight in the air and on the ground this way. The sixaxis controller is used to control flight almost exclusively by using the tilt features. This looks to be a must-own game. You can check out a trailer for it at its official website at http://www.us.playstation.com/Lair/ and can also download a high defintion trailer. Killzone PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII and the next obligatory Gran Turismo Games are all in devolment and should each be stunning games in their own right. Xplay just did a summer games preview episode and you can view all the trailors at their website: http://www.g4tv.com/xplay just scroll down a bit click on the "xplay summer game preview" and you can check them all out. They have a great video of Lair there also, and "John Woo's Stranglehold" looks pretty good also. | | | |

| | Anytime my friend. So out of curiosity, can you recommend any PS3 games that you currently have? | | | |

| | As per a previous response I was able to check out the PS3 and some games when my cousin got one yesterday. Resistance Fall of Man is supercool, it's way better than Killzone was on the PS2. We also played Motorstorm and that fun also. | | | |

| | We only have 3 PS3 games, one is a motorcyle $ wheeler thing that my youngest son loves. One is Madden 2007, which all three of my boys love. They play it nearly every day. They have Madden 2007 on the PS2 as well, and the only difference, of course, are the graphics. They are quite impressive. Lastly, we have Call of Duty for the PS3. (that's mine. I enjoy it.) I have been wondering about the Resistant game you mentioned. You say it's cool, and I believe you, but I'm wondering what it's about. What is the point of the game? I guess what I'm really saying is it too unrealistic? | | | |

| | If you like Call of Duty, I think you'll love Resistance: Fall of man. Basically it is shooter/action game that is set in an alternate universe of WWII. I haven't played too far into the game yet (I'm gonna pick this up when I buy the PS3) so a lot of the details are sketchy but instead of some german threat, parts of europe has been infected with a virus that mutates people and things into other creatures, mostly zombie/monster types but they are intelligent and armed and the war wages on. The story so far has been really good, the action is awesome and there are some really cool weapons. This game was done by the same people who did the ratchet and clank series. The game has great multiplayer. You can play with up to 4 people in story mode in cooperation mode for localized gaming via splitscreen. If you take it online, you can play various games with up to 40 other people. | | | |

| | Man oh man, I wish you hadn't told me this, filmbuff. It looks like I'll be adding Resistance as soon as I can. Then my only delemma will be whether to waste my time on that or on myLot. Plus, I've been wanting to try World of Warcraft. So little time, so many games. | | | |

| | Sorry Trans, haha I know the feeling about not being sure where to waste your time. In regards to World of Warcraft there is very little point to the game. It's fun for the first 60 or so levels but then it becomes just an endless grind of killing things over and over and over again to gain reputation with various factions to get better items. The end-game aspect is drama filled as it's essential to find a good guild to run any of the high level dungeons (which is where you get all the good equipment) and requires 15-40 players for those dungeons depending on which one you do. Typically the good guilds who will run those instances recquire you be on for specific raid times usually for 6 hours 3 or 4 times a week. I gave up a good 8 months of my life to that game and decided it really wasn't worth it. That being said, Age of Conan comes out in October and looks stellar. You can sign up for the beta at http://www.ageofconan.com/ (I'm afraid of WoW all over again, but it just looks way too cool to pass up) | | | |

| | Yeah the lack of a rumble feature is kind've an issue like you said. Although I am on the fence in that regard. Sometimes I like the vibrations and sometimes it just bothers me. I didn't know that they had a problem with a third party that was preventing the vibrations. I thought that the rumble was incompatible with the sixaxis controller since you're tilting the controller to control your characters on the screen. | | | |

| | I had thought that too, at first, but I read an article in Game Informer a month or so ago that said they might be able to do something with rumble now that their problem with whatever company it was is taken care of. Lack of rumble wouldn't have made me not get the system, but it's nice to know that it might return. I'm still going to wait quite a while, just because $600 is a lot of money to blow all at once, especially for a game system (although I'd love to do it). | | | |
