First there are always exceptions to the rule, I have found some lady teachers who have an incredible ability to relate to young men. But for the most part that is an exception not the rule.
I believe the difference comes in the way women look at the world and the way boys look at the world. Young boys are extreme risk takers. They are looking for things to challenge and ways to assert their abilty to conquer.
Women I have found are more concerned with the look of a thing while boys are concerned with substance.
I wish to give a few examples, I have encountered as a teacher in a Special Education alternative school for 15 years.
One of my students broke a stapler but I sought to keep it. A female teacher was perplexed. She could not understand why. "Why don't you throw it away and remove the clutter". I tried to explain to her knowing the minds of my boy students, there was going to be an opportunity to keep a student, who was having a bad day, busy by getting him to fix that stapler. Sure enough that happened.
Female teachers are also more prone to listen at gossip about students rather than make their own interpretation. But the biggest problem I have seen is they let their personal feelings affect their judgement.
I had several lady teachers who did not like me which is fine. However, when I would choose a student to assist with the pledge of allegiance and that student would say it and work to become a leader, these women would go out their way to withdraw any type of adulation for the student.
This happened in many other programs I was involved with. Because the ladies did not like me they were unable to support the students whom we were all supposed to support.
Without maturity female teachers will be unable to break through to reach young men who are ingrained in their pysche at substance over style.
