have you been to a battlefield? like gettysburg |

Have you ever been to visit a battlefield? My husband and I love to visit these sites but I am so overcome with grief,it is so sad to stand there and think about all the blood shed and death that occured. There are many battlefields,I think gettysburg is my favorite,Chickamauga in Georgia,Antietam in Maryland and so many others. Have you been to a battlefield? what are your feelings when you go there? Have any to add to the list that I might enjoy seeing?

mrsbrian (1699) | 3 years ago | We want to go back and will plan that trip later this year, the town left us with a special feeling also, I would suggest you go to Antietam it is only about an hour away and it is so sad to see, We want to go to FRedricksburg also, i could always plan a vacation around a battlefield. So do you live close to the area of gettysburg?

katiedoubleu (2953) | 3 years ago | We've checked into it and have wanted to just drive over there when we're in Gettysburg sometime. The thing that stops us usually is that I haven't been able to find lodging in the immediate area. It's... Sharpsburg, I think, and there just doesn't seem to be a hotel in sight. I'd love to hear if I'm wrong about that, though!

3. oneandonemakesix (24038) | 3 years ago | I love Gettysburg, and been there many times. I used to take my kids and walk the battlefield...
As a homeschool mom it thrilled me to watch their interest in Gettysburg change, and want to learn more things about the civil war.
YEs it is sad to think all the blood shed and death on those battlefields...not just the civil war, but any war fought on American soil....
Even the Native Americans...they to probably have lost as much as anyone....

| 4. thebonehead (73) | 3 years ago | I've never ever have seen a real battlefield before. However, I definitely do want to see one sometime. Gettysburg, Antietam...
Speaking of which, has anyone ever seen a WWII battlefield, such as Iwo Jima or Normandy?

5. ma_belle (1248) | 3 years ago | I've never been to an actual battlefield. It would be interesting to tour one though. I have been to an area in upstate new york which was a site of the 1812 war. it was right across the river from canada and apparently the british were sending bombs across the river into NY.

6. samtaylorskykierajen (5849) | 3 years ago | Actually I did visit a place like this when I was younger and still in school . It was acutally very fascinating and I have always wanted to take my children there as they have never been to visit anything like this . While I was there you couldn't help but feel as though you were in another time and realize how much has changed over the years and what these people had to go through . I can remember having some bread that they made in one of the buildings they had set out that was from that era and it was actually not to bad . They showed us all how it was made and it was so different from the way we do things today . They had people dressed up in uniforms and it was definitely very interesting .
